Cricket does actually have fast camera panning when the ball is going to the square boundaries so I would expect to see some jutter.
Arsenal Player doesn't suffer from huge motion stutter problems either.
But it's ok for it to show up on PLP because my connection isn't as fast as TV3's? I'm sure my connection is noway near what TV3 have but PLP are an online broadcaster, if they didn't want to find a way to deliver a smooth video to my computer, why did they go into online broadcasting?

I don't really care about that, all I am saying is that jsut because TV3 has good footage says precisely nothing about what an online delivered service will look like.

That reminds me the old days when movies companies were able to provide a much better video quality to Cinemas and TV stations but selling the mediocre VCD versions to general public

StarBlazer: I've installed the Android app on my Galaxy S2 and I have to say the quality is excellent.

Playing around with the bit rate, 800kbs is high enough to watch on my phone - what surprised me more is that the judder effect we have been seeing only becomes evident at 240kbps. At 800kbps the playback is very good at 1200 and 1600kbps the playback is flawless.

Okay this is not a fair comparison, my S2 screen is a lot smaller, but I saw some motion judder on a windowed playback also.

However it does show that they are capable of producing a fluid stream, which is a good prospect for producing a better picture on the big TV - they obviously have to work on their PC app.

I'm now looking forward to the Apple app to see if they can keep the quality up or even raise the bar.

I have joined PLP yesterday and installed the Android app in my Samsung Galaxy S3, Quality is brilliant, now waiting for the Apple app to see how good will it be on Apple TV..

Quality is brilliant because it is on a small screen, or that when put on the TV the app does some upscaling improvements to the stream?

It's a shame we can't run a poll here to ask the following questions:

1) Had Sky Sports in HD and not happy with the PLP quality.
2) Had Sky Sports in HD and happy with the PLP quality.
3) Had Sky Sports in SD and happy with the PLP quality.
4) Had Sky Sports in SD and not happy with the PLP quality.
5) Had no legal way of viewing EPL in NZ and happy that no longer need Sky to watch EPL.

I would certainly be interested in how many #5s there are on Geekzone and I think the poll would provide interesting debate.

6) Had Sky Sports in HD but not subscribed to PLP due to Sky still having Arsenal games and being interested in other sports so not wanting to cancel Sky and not wanting to pay out for an additional service.

Also,
7) Living in a rental with dodgy internal wiring I can't do much about so would be unlikely to be able to stream PLP at the highest bitrate until I am in my own place and am more able to do something about the wiring/internet connection or have access to UFB.

For the purposes of the actual poll,

1) Had Sky HD and not happy with the quality of PLP.

The other interesting one would be which club you support or if "fan of football" - meaning some ppl (like my dad) enjoy watching any team and not really fussed about a team.

I support Norwich which I doubt would ever get TV1 game of the week this year. The fact I can watch all 38 Norwich games this year (legally) is so exciting for me. I think it different if you support Man U, Arsenal, Man C & Spurs your options are open. Not having sky last year I don't know how many Norwich games were show, obviously this year 8 norwich games will be on sky delayed, I don't see sky sport subscript worth that for me, especially to hear the bias view on the game (I assume the sky version will be from ManU TV commentators rather than the standard "natural" commentator view on PLP)

Yeah you could easily make more than 10 options, but I thought I'd actually do the viewing choice as that is more pertanent for most as I would imagine outside of the top clubs you most likely wouldn't have been watching on Sky anyway.

Personally I'm #1 as I support Man Utd (since I was a wee boy living in the borough of trafford) and disappointed that quality viewing has now gone.

Yes, I can see top 6 team fans will be more upset with this, and there are probably more top 6 team fans than there are of the other 14 teams in NZ.

It will be interesting to see long term what happens, PLP have open it up, the fact there are reply games/highlights on TV1, sky and summetsport, as well as streaming is really cool. I have no plans to pay the $1000+ for sky a year. If sky had offered my a way of watch some/all Norwich games, that is cheaper I would have considered it. TV/Entertainment is changing, the old traditional companies (looking at music) are not really wanting to change.

I also from the point of view that streaming in general can only get better, and in the future proper HD will be achievable, I don't know if that years away or not

Had access to isky and was poor quality !!!

This is better than some streams on the internet as they are not closed down halfway though a game...

It can only get better. Pause, fastforward and rewind is great and the ability not to shed out for a SKYHD box too....
