I just looked at my bank statement and found that for the past two months Quickflix has charged me $16.99 instead of $9.99. I didn't get any sort of notification that the price was increasing by 70%; did anyone?

Is the TV Episode/Movie offering any better to reflect that big price increase?

Not a clue; I rarely even look at it anymore but at $10 I didn't care too much. Now that it's more expensive I'm just going to cancel it (although there's no "cancel" function on the site either; if I didn't know better then I'd think that they were deliberately trying to be annoying).

the $9.99 a month was for a limited time I believe...It must have expired.  I cancelled a long time ago...Hard to justify that service when I'm not really big into watching a bunch of old, bad movies.

mine is still $9.99 but will go up shortly. It was that price for only 12 months they stated clearly when I signed on.   If you want to cancel again it was clearly stated on mine that you have to ring up and cancel. It cannot be done on the internet.

Interesting; I've gone back to my original order confirmation and there is no mention of this. The only price mentioned is "Membership: Unlimited streaming for $9.99".

A quick search of press releases at the time say $16.99 is the retail with a $9.99 introductory price.

yep. I got the same deal.  It was VERY clear at the time that this was a temporary price for the first 12 months and that the price for me would go up to $16.99 after that. there is no way you could have missed it IMO.  Maybe you just forgot?

Me too.

I remember seeing that the $9.99 was a limited time only thing.

I signed up very early on and they didn't mention that the price would go up, or what it would be.  It went up, I immediately called and cancelled and they refunded my money.  They did offer to continue at $9.99 but I did not take them up on it because the selection is so crap as to be largely worthless.

I believe after that they fixed up the wording on their site.

That could explain it; I signed up very early too (30/3; Wikipedia says the launch was on 29/3) and I don't recall seeing anything about the price going up.

In any case it would've been good customer service to send an email shortly before increasing the price, whether or not it was advised a year ago.

Companies will often often have an introductory price, and revert to a higher price later. It's to get you signed up, as once you are a customer, you are more likley to keep using the services, even at a higher price, than a new customer signing up at the high price. You often see google ads for services offering a service for a $1, but when you click on the link, you find that that price only applies for the 1st month, which I think is verging on misleading. But as it is often overseas owned companies that I see doing it, they can probably get away with it.

In this case however, you should contact the company. They should have told you if the price they were billing you, was going to change, when it changed. Or if it was an introductory price, when that cheap pricing was ending and the new pricing would take effect.

I recall seeing that too, but that doesn't really excuse them for not informing the customer that the amount they would be billed at the next invoice would be going up.
