Anyone seen this?

Quite exciting but how do you think this would work? are they just adding another Freeview channel or will you need a special Freeview box to make this work?

They will have a channel number on Freeview DTT and perhaps the satellite service as well

entering that number on the remote or through the epg will load their MHEG based app. From there you will login to your account to access their content.

all straight forward and the same method can be used for Channels to stream over the net to Freeview devices. The U.K Freeview has some portals providing ethnic content in this way.

Would this service also be available on TV's with built in Freeview? My TV is an older Sony Bravia with Freeview built in, its not a smart TV but it does have an ethernet port, which can access some content on my LAN.

It depends whether the TV support MHEG IC or not, but it probably does.

Freeview specs initially said every TV over 30" needed to support this. It's now been changed to say every TV that has a LAN port needs to support this.

It all remains pointless though, unless they can offer a price/content package that makes it worthwhile opening an account.

Last time I looked, their pricing was steep (but tolerable in a pinch) compared to other offerings and what you can get in other jurisdictions. Their content range, however, was pathetic. For not much more I could get a VPN and Netflix - which offers vastly more content, and a much better release window on new material as well.

Having a swish, accessible and user friendly delivery channel isn't much use unless they have some actual desirable content to deliver over it.

Yeah I know. waiting to see if Apple announces a new Apple TV box next month which does do HD as the existing one does....

Also, is it 100% confirmed it's coming on Terrestrial only?

In the future, I expect to see people asking why their pre-2011 equipment cannot access new features like this. To be precise, some of the equipment that were certified in 2010 may also support it, but I imagine there would not be too many of them.

This is what Quickflix says: "Quickflix Pay Per Play is currently only available on PC & Mac, 2012 model Samsung TVs, Blu-rays and Home Theatre Systems featuring the Samsung SmartHub and 2011 & 2012 model Panasonic TVs with Viera Connect."

If you are asking about satellite in your final question, the current Freeview specifications for satellite transmission rules do not include ICStreaming requirements.

That tells me it's very much SD only when you consider a 720P 42 minute TV program with DD5.1 is about 1.4Gig.
