NBA TV

Spark Sport announced today it will distribute NBA (National Basketball Association) TV to fans in New Zealand. NBA TV is the NBA’s 24/7 dedicated channel. Spark Sport subscribers will be able to watch 6-7 NBA games per week on Spark Sport. A range of NBA content including highlights, documentaries, Hardwood Classic Games and NBA studio shows, including The Starters and NBA Gametime will also be available on the streaming service. Purchasing a Spark Sport monthly subscription will enable sports fans to access NBA TV content, in addition to the growing stable of sports content, for a single monthly price.

Head of Spark Sport, Jeff Latch, said Spark was thrilled to be bringing more action from the NBA to New Zealand. “Basketball is one of the fastest growing sports in New Zealand – we’re confident this will encourage a whole new audience to jump onto Spark Sport. The 2018-19 season is underway and Spark Sport will launch in time for basketball fans to enjoy NBA games and programming.”

“With their extensive portfolio of premium sports content, Spark Sport is an ideal partner to help increase the NBA’s presence in New Zealand,” said Ramez Sheikh, NBA Asia Head of Global Content & Media Distribution. “There’s never been a better time to be an NBA fan, and we’re excited to work with Spark Sport to provide comprehensive and easy access to NBA games and content.”

WRC

Spark has also secured the media rights for the FIA World Rally Championship in New Zealand. The 2019 calendar covers 14 rallies across five continents, featuring gravel, asphalt and snow and ice, and culminates at the Rally Australia finale at Coffs Harbour on 14-17 November. Spark Sport will stream rallies live and will also host a variety of highlights content.

Latch says, “The inclusion of the FIA World Rally Championship in our motorsports line up cements Spark Sport as a destination for motorsports fans. The 2019 rallies will provide viewers with a range of exciting events in some amazing destinations.”

WRC Promoter Managing Director Oliver Ciesla said: “New Zealand has an amazing motorsport following and Spark Sport viewers will love the drama, thrills and adventure of the WRC as it travels the globe amid spectacular scenery and the toughest of driving conditions.”

Liverpool TV

Finally, Spark has secured the media rights for Liverpool FC TV, a 24/7 channel of content from the famous Premier League club, Liverpool FC. The channel features live coverage and highlights of U23 & U18 games, full replays of every first team match in every competition including Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup, as well as exclusive manager and player interviews, live pre and post-match coverage and exclusive features and documentaries, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Sky sports should just rename sky rugby cricket channel.

I must admit to increasingly contemplating a year of spark sports... have to look into app situation and smart TV.

Really?  I'm surfing between 3 channels of tennis - and thankfully there is no rugby in sight.  I wish Sky would adopt the Sky UK sports channel approach so I can avoid the rugby for the part of the year that its on.

There’s also 16 pop up channels for Australian open on Sky Go, you can pick what court to watch.

This is the reply I got from them on FB ...

“... sorry for the delay in our answer here. We won’t be live for Jan 24th, so WRC races can be accessed by purchasing a online subscription directly from WRC+. Once Spark Sport goes live, races will also be available from Spark Sport, included in the price of the monthly subscription, which will also include access to all Formula 1 content. Hope this helps ☺️“

So looks like only Monte options are WRC+ and RedBullTV (though they seemed to cover less live stages than Duke, but believe their daily highlights will continue).

Yep, I'm a Liverpool fan, F1 fan, like watching NBA (will the NBA channel have live games or is it more a news channel?)

Only thing missing is NFL and NRL and I'm sold oh and maybe the World Darts Championship at Xmas :)

Spark Sports isn't something i can give too many details on, but this is the latest public statement

We are aiming to launch Spark Sport later in the first quarter of this year. However, these tournaments have either already kicked off or start in January, prior to the launch of Spark Sport.

The good news is that people who are keen to watch these sports can still do so.

Here’s how:
Heineken Cup
Spark’s partner TVNZ will show two Heineken Champions Cup games a week free-to-air via TVNZ Duke on Saturday and Sunday mornings, until Spark Sport launches. From launch, all Heineken Champions Cup matches will be available live and on-demand via Spark Sport. TVNZ will continue to show one game a week free-to-air on TVNZ Duke until the conclusion of the competition.

FIH Pro League
All initial Black Sticks matches will be broadcast live on TVNZ 2. Once Spark Sport goes live, matches will be available exclusively from Spark Sport.

World Rally Championships
WRC races can be accessed by purchasing a online subscription directly from WRC+. Once Spark Sport goes live, races will also be available from Spark Sport – and will be included in the price of the monthly subscription, which also includes access to all Formula 1 content.

NBA
Keen NBA fans can access all NBA content by purchasing the NBA League Pass. Once Spark Sport goes live, subscribers will be able to watch 6-7 NBA games per week on Spark Sport included in the price of their monthly subscription. They will also be able to access a range of NBA content including highlights, documentaries, Hardwood Classic Games and NBA studio shows, including The Starters and NBA Gametime.

Any idea what NBA will have in regards to playoffs/finals? I can handle less regular season games (currently an NBA LP subscriber) but playoffs is a bit more critical.

So how long do I give my money to some other service, just to get the service Spark Sport should be suppling? 1 week, 1 month, Or may be I should always sign up to the suggested other services and never sign up with Spark Sport

When is Spark Sport launching?
