I saw Alan the postman just yesterday. With the exception of wearing gloves to handle the wine that my wife ordered 2 weeks ago, he was dressed as usual and was his usual cheery self.

I'm absolutely inclined to agree that the idea of lockdown was to minimise cocntact and interaction, and I support closures remaining in place for that reason.

But, there are some things - and heating or a new fridge if your's dies entirely are probably good examples - that will still be very much essential even in these times.

I work for a business that has continued to trade during lockdown, and we are managing this very carefully to ensure there is minimal contact within our team and with customers. MBIE has outlined that these are requirements for all business operating as essential and they have robust measures in place to verify these are met.

In these cases, I would imagine a small number of staff will work in selected stores or fulfilment centres to pick and pack deliveries and hand these off to couriers or other transport to deliver in a contactless manner. Storefronts won't open (beyond what's already allowed for).

From what I've read the most likely way for transmission of infection to occur is via infected airborne particles (from someone sneezing or coughing) being breathed in or coming into contact with your body, say hands then being transferred to the face, nose, mouth area when you touch these areas with your hands.

Yes. The box remains where he put it under the porch and it will remain there until the weekend, by which time we think it will be safe!

I believe the science-y types are saying 72 hours seems to be about the worst case scenario for the virus surviving on surfaces, so yeah by the weekend seems pretty safe. I've also heard of people wiping down packaging with warm soapy water/alcohol to disinfect and sanitise.

If there's no other source you can try ordering from Australia, they're mostly still open for mail order, with some restrictions. Shipping isn't drastically more than within NZ, it's just the delivery time that's a bit uncertain. Did this last week for some specialised cable that I didn't have on hand and that isn't easily kludged via something else.

Cauliflower prices were high before the lockdown - it's a supply and demand thing, and right now there isn't supply.

People also complaining about garlic prices - that's because we now rely on Chinese garlic for the bulk of our supply and haven't had a lot arrive in the country.

I had a chat with Noel Leeming.

Apparently, it is caused by the category the government puts each shop in. That is why they cannot sell a slow cooker and Briscoes and The Warehouse can sell a slowcooker.

Only a bureaucratic mind could think that was a sensible approach.

Days ago there was noise in the media. I normally spend $100 and it was $150 what a rip off. There is no way that supermarkets caused that. Buying extra does.
