IMO I hope they don't have side effects, because it could reduce the number of people who are willing to take up the fully tested ones that haven't been rushed. I recall one recent vaccine for something else reportedly caused narcolepsy.Already apparently quite a lot of people in NZ wouldn't take it.

There are no new cases of COVID-19 to report in New Zealand today.

There are 18 people isolating in the Auckland quarantine facility from the community, which includes 9 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and their household contacts.

One person is in hospital with COVID-19 at Middlemore hospital. The patient is in isolation on a general ward.

Since August 11, our contact tracing team has identified 4,075 close contacts of cases, of which 4,072 have been contacted and are self-isolating or have completed self-isolation. We are in the process of contacting the rest.

Our total number of active cases is 55; of those, 28 are imported cases in MIQ facilities, and 27 are community cases.

Our total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 1,477.

Yesterday our laboratories processed 3,539 tests, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 951,954.

Lower testing figures on Saturdays and Sundays are not unusual, however this is a good reminder that we can’t afford to be complacent.

Testing numbers look to be dropping back. The MOHs press release even warns against people getting complacent. Anyone with cold or flu symptoms need to get tested.

they will drop because the flu is almost non existent this year so people with symptoms are not showing up.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

This is their big dilemma, flu is very low this year

and what spikes there are in reporting are heavily linked to COVID ( the 25 June and 12 August items are quite visible here)

They really need to find a way to undertake 5-6000 sentinel tests a day to keep the averages up,

but herding healthy people in to be tested isn't sustainable in the long term,

Its good to have another test, how effective the Covid response has been. Its been a long time since level 4 ended, yet the lesser levels has severely impacted the flu and colds this Winter. Now Winter is over, impressive to say the least.

Good point. In Winter, here in NZ, do the flu's arrive from other end of Winter season to join our start of Winter season, or do they hibernate here? Going by what we have learnt about Covid, no hibernation, once its gone, its gone. Its a pity that Winter is a rotating season on Earth, there are always travellers going from Winter to end of Winter to somewhere else to keep it active.

I have a very young relative, who has been admitted to a Children's Ward with an infection that could be treated in Outpatients or a day clinic. I suspect that one of the reasons she's been admitted is that the Children's Ward is just about empty. The Charge Nurse said they haven't seen even 20% of their usual stream of flu / chest infection / pneumonia patients this winter

I know of quite a few people who have had colds this year and some still have them. I would doubt they are all getting tested, as they may just think it is a cold.

Maybe the sentinel testing should be done around known activities that can cause clusters, such as schools, near public transport, churches etc. Free masks were being used to get people tested. Without testing, we won't find cases, and we only need to miss one case, and it could cause a lockdown over time. eg What happened in Auckland.

Arrgh, Covid Tracer logout again , though this time it will still allow scan, other functions locked, I wonder if there is any correlation between the sudden scan dropoff and people being logged out ? About a month since the big uptake ?
