tdgeek: Its Common Sense 101

No such thing. In general people are stupid and think only about themselves. I see literally hundreds of examples of it every single day. This is why you see virtually no one scanning whenever they enter a business premise.

It is !  Although can 't see why they can't do an online version of it. I had been saving up some purchases for it.

A lockdown is possibly also seen as likely for Auckland depending on what the genome testing shows, guessing they will announce something tomorrow?. I wonder if this will affect Australia's incoming travel bubble with NZ, or ours with the pacific islands. It seems just as we are about to open up to the pacific islands, we get an new unknown community incursion.

Pbtech's web servers can't handle it. In addition I imagine Auckland is their biggest revenue so it makes sense to postpone the sale. Remain hopeful that our time line won't change if this is contained really quickly. Be vigilant however, regardless of what levels we are.

genuine question - has the MOH estimated the likelihood of undetected community transmission elsewhere in the country? i bet people outside of Auckland(/?Wtg) and thinking and therefore behaving like they're completely fine (which may or may not be a good thing)

Be good to your spouse. Remember right now they could poison you and it would be counted as a Covid death.

My kids are not social distancing. They follow me everywhere and constantly touch me!! Who can I report this to?

If you're refusing to wear a mask due to concerns your brain won't get enough oxygen, I think that ship has already sailed.

Husband and I went grocery shopping with masks. Got home, took off masks, brought home wrong husband!

Asking for a friend: During the Middle Ages they celebrated the end of the plague with wine and orgies. Does anyone know if they have anything like that planned when this one ends?

So far 2020 is like looking both ways before crossing the street and then getting hit by an airplane.

I would have never believed that a few weeks of uncut hair would weigh 20 pounds but that's what the scale says.
------
Hello, I want a bottle of Covid 19 vaccine please.

Certainly sir. Which one do you want? We a lovely white from the Yarra Valley and a nice red from the Barossa... Both very effective.

I'll take both thanks.
------
TL; DR Masks required

If you choose not to wear a mask, we respectfully ask that you postpone your visit.

We'll be happy to debate the efficacy of masks with you when this is all over and you come in to sell your dead grandmother's clothes.
------
There's a spike in Covid cases because there's a spike in testing.

If we had more IQ tests, there would be a spike in morons too
------
Mum, do I look like dad?

I don't know honey. It was 2020 and I was in quarantine in a Melbourne hotel, and the security guards work masks

New York Times: Two central bankers sound a cautious note over vaccine prospects.

Jerome H. Powell, the Federal Reserve chair, and Christine Lagarde, the head of the European Central Bank, both voiced caution over the prospect for a coronavirus vaccine — arguing that there are too many uncertainties ahead to assume that the global economy is out of danger.

Coronavirus cases are rising in the United States and around the world, which could imperil a steady recovery that has taken place since lockdowns sent economic activity plummeting in March and April. Markets surged in recent days on hopes that a vaccine will be available soon, after the pharmaceutical company Pfizer on Monday announced strong results for its potential coronavirus vaccine.

But the foremost leaders of the global economy sounded less optimistic.

“That is certainly good and welcome news for the medium term,” Mr. Powell said of a vaccine, but it is “too soon” to assess with confidence the meaning for the economy, adding that “the next few months could be challenging.”

He highlighted the virus surge as the biggest cause for concern.

“Here in the United States, We do see the economy continuing on a solid path of recovery, but the main risk we see to that is clearly the further spread of the disease,” Mr. Powell said. “People may lose confidence that it is safe to go out.”

Ms. Lagarde said that she did not want to be “exuberant” about the vaccine, even as one looks likely early next year.

“There are still uncertainties — about the logistics, about the transportation, about the rolling out, about the fabrication” and about how many people can actually be vaccinated in 2021.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/123384709/covid19-overnight-testing-finds-a-likely-link-for-auckland-mystery-coronavirus-case

Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins is currently speaking to Newstalk ZB.   He said things were "looking pretty encouraging" this morning, and preliminary findings from ESR are leaning towards there likely being a link with the NZDF November cluster.   This is not yet confirmed however. Hipkins said they just have preliminary findings at this stage and he expects to have final findings from ESR later today.

And

An AM Show reporter this morning is at the scene of the Vincent St apartment building - where the new Auckland case lives. The reporter said she's seen a handful of residents leave the building with overnight bags.   When asked about this, Hipkins said the advice given to these people is that while they're awaiting test results, to stay at home.    "We are relying on a lot of goodwill here," he told The AM Show, he will be in touch with Public Health "in a few minutes" around this.   "I'll certainly be looking at that."   While waiting for test results, "please stay at home", Hipkins reiterated to all New Zealanders.   "Stay home if you are unwell. We can't reiterate that message enough."   Hipkins would not rule out or comment on a lockdown at this stage but said they do not have a scheduled Cabinet meeting today. They would schedule one today if needed, which they can do quickly.   If they can link this new Auckland community case to the NZDF group, "that would be very helpful", he said.

They basically need to get the epidemiological link sorted by this evening or else this will run away from us.

If people think we could end up locked down again, they'll get out and about while they still can.

The response from local health authorities also seems to be slooooow.
The isolation hotel is only next door, surprised no-one was assigned to nip over monitor the entrance and give people going in and out info.

The assumption that a genomic link means we can all forget this I find puzzling.
If this case got it from passing contact with one of the NZDF in bar or street then so can others and majority of covid cases are mildly symptomatic.
Never mind there has been plenty of time and places for this case to transfer further.
Including a building that had visitors and people leaving to go wherever, in the day or more that health authorities sat on their hands.

Isolation Hotel that is fully staffed is next door, it astounds me at least this was not actioned.

Id say that any lockdown will need to wait till we see if testing indicates its out there, or the general mechanisms of distancing has heavily limited any spread. Mandatory masks, fineable, needs to be put in place.

Given the expectations here from some that our Covid response is lacking, bubbles cannot happen. There will always be leaks. Caused by lax efforts in that fire drill or by testing and "you are all clear" not being 100% accurate.

Oh dear, sounds like Italy. news broke of the virus, stay home, so many scarpered on trains and cars to another part of Italy to get away from it, but instead transported it elsewhere.

I agree. The virus doesn't spread by whatever the Genome link says, it spreads by people in the apartment block not staying at home till further notice.

Does the Govt or MoH have the power yesterday to order apartment block residents to stay at home, or go home if they are out or at work/school? I guess even then it would be I better go to New World, stop by and grab beers, get other errands out of the way...
