True, but also hard to feel too upbeat about that given the defence force cluster has obviously triggered at least one instance of long chain transmission that our contact tracing and testing did not find first.

I'm guessing it will be linked via the restaurant or bottle shop, and probably put down to Fomite transmission.... the number of scan ins at those locations were pretty low, so its highly likely some people didn't get any notifications...

On a different subject, this is worth a read.  Disappointing that NZ has only just started actioning this despite being long talked about.  Yes, I know some here are not fans of wastewater testing and of course there are issues still to resolve but the results are already considered of value in AU; eg. no viral fragments detected in ACT provides additional confidence that cases are not being missed.  And NSW has recently moved to testing from smaller catchments to provide more targeted alerts.

Agree, its another source. Effectively testing the whole population in each catchment area

From Stuff:

Breaking: Infected student was at AUT this week

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS) has provided an update that the AUT student who tested positive for Covid-19 was at the City Campus Student Hub, from 2.30pm to 2.40pm on Tuesday 10th of November.

ARPHS regards this interaction as low risk. Anyone in the vicinity at that time would be regarded as casual contacts.

This means if you were in the vicinity at the time you do not need to isolate but should monitor your health for 14 days from 10 November. If you do develop any possible Covid-19 symptoms you should go and get tested for Covid-19 and isolate until you have the result.

Fleeting visit by the sounds of it.

Disgusting behaviour/attitude from that store manager, if it turns out to be correct that they encouraged the worker to come in while sick/awaiting a test. Unacceptable. Close the store or work in it yourself if you have no one to cover.

Yep. It's a hassle I know but surely a business should have some kind of plan in place for this kind of thing when there's only 1 staff member regardless of covid. What if the person had a heart attack or was in an accident on the way to work and had to be taken to hospital? Would they still be demanding they suck it up and come in?

so it looks like this new case is part of the defence cluster and not a unknown case , which is good news .

How many wake up calls do we need in this country before things are actually done?

Masks should be compulsory on all public transport; scanning the QR code needs to be compulsory.

i will say it again, not everyone has a mobile phone and if it was compulsory how many people will just pretend to scan it. People dont want to do it and no law will make them . Humans , go figure .

Far to many!

We are still on the Rinse and Repeat cycle for the better part of a year!

Humans (As a whole) seem to be the most selfish species on the planet!

MoH appear to be working on the theory of there being "direct" transmission between case A and the new one.... but they haven't got the method of transmission yet

Too true. The smarter thing to do is simply enable GPS. Why are they bowing down to the tin foil hat people that are scared of being tracked? Most of them are too paranoid to even have smart phones. If GPS is disabled by default then that would please the crazies that do have phones. The thing I find funny is the crazies are worried about being tracked yet they go around with their data, wifi, microphone, cameras, motion sensors etc left on and are being tracked anyways.
With GPS enabled, the majority of people that have the app can track their movements with out having to touch their phones.
Another way to look at:
5% of people scared of being tracked
80% of people can't be bothered scanning every single time
Go with the majority of people and enable GPS. Look

I may be wrong but I believe the Apple/Google solution only traces contacts via exposure (theourhg Bluetooth) rather than locations?

Suspect the reason is to have a more complete tracing diary rather than just an opaque record of people you've been around. Note I do support the Apple/Google and believe we should be using this in addition to QR scanning.
