i will say it again, not everyone has a mobile phone and if it was compulsory how many people will just pretend to scan it. People dont want to do it and no law will make them . Humans , go figure .

I am part of a beta test group. The next version you don't have to login to use the app and scan codes.

Good news.

This shows what a poor understanding some people have of how the app works. The government nor anyone else gets to know where she goes unless they need to know her movements for contact tracing.  Whether she uses the app or keeps records by other means, it really makes no difference.

Public education also should extend to highlighting how privacy is maintained.

I hope you tried to educate her. We need people in her position leading by example.

if they don't get to know, what triggers the alert to the individuals device?

I would say most people would put it down to sinus and not bother with a test.

I might have misunderstood how it works, but my understanding is the affected businesses details are broadcast to all registered app users. The app can determine whether or not that businesses QR code has been scanned (saved on the device) and then alert the app user that they are a potential contact. It's after that notification that the app user contacts the contact tracers and their location details are then requested by the contact tracers.

In order to speed up contact tracing, I think there is an option within the app to allow those that are happy too, to share their location details in real time (or there abouts), otherwise it is my understanding nothing is shared unless you become a suspected contact of an infected person.

The app is an electronic diary with a few extra features. It is not a tracking device.

The app doesn't share in real-time and there's no such option. You have the option to enter the code provided by contact tracers and that will upload the data when part of an investigation.

I read she never went to Uni, she did. How can they make a mistake with that? Doubt they did, I favour the member of public being front page news is denying it.

I also read there was mingling now there wasn't

From Stuff

Hipkins also said he would be taking a public health order to Cabinet on Monday to get public face coverings to become mandatory on public transport in Auckland and on all domestic flights. The possibility of extending mask rules to other parts of the country was also being considered.

I suggest make PT masks nationwide. PT is a great way to spread it, the environment is enclosed. Include cabs. No CT in 28 days remove it. An outbreak no matter how small (this Uni student is one person, could have infected many before we know) back in it goes.

That might be due to a delay in reporting.

But still, from the outside looking in, it sucks to be American.

Still seem to be unconcerning to a large number of Americans though.

STAT-Harris Poll: Most Americans won’t get a Covid-19 vaccine unless it cuts risk by half

Six in 10 Americans said they are somewhat or very likely to get a Covid-19 vaccine if doing so would lower the risk of becoming infected by about half, according to a new survey from STAT and The Harris Poll. The poll also found that more Americans say they are likely to get a vaccine, practice social distancing, and wear a mask if they or someone they know has contracted Covid-19.

...The poll, which surveyed 1,954 adults online between Oct. 29-31, suggests that even a less effective vaccine wouldn’t have an outsized impact on the public’s willingness to be immunized. Among those queried, nearly two-thirds reported they would get a vaccine if the shot lowered their risk of contracting the coronavirus by 75%....

“If we’re actually at 90%, it’s going to reinforce for two-thirds of Americans who are then much more likely to take the vaccine, although I think it’s fair to say that it doesn’t need to be 90% effective to get that pull through,” said Rob Jekielek, managing director of The Harris Poll.

“It may not necessarily need to be the 90% that Pfizer is showing in its preliminary results. But the data indicates it will have to be over 50% for the general public and over 75% for that younger generation of Americans.”...

Exponential does rock, but not in this case. Its basic math and thats sad. I see Canada has similar issues, they also have a Thanksgiving Day and that hurt. @Sideface for a resident perspective?
