What are they going to do when they run out of letters in the alphabet when it comes to identifying cases? They sounded concerned about this on TVNZ news LOL

JaseNZ:

All flights out should have been cancelled end of.

Put up road blocks etc but hey we will let thousands fly out instead.

So now it could be transferred out of Auckland to where ever they are traveling.

Sorry I cannot see the logic behind that.

The Auckland border closure is fairly soft (compare to our international border), many thousands of people are allowed to cross (essentially workers, people traveling for essential medical care, people going home etc), and are not required to isolate at their destination.

Canceling flights would have quite a negative impact on those allowed through the auckland border, as well as posing issues for those using Auckland as a transit city for say Kerikeri to Queenstown travel.

Entire country is at level 2 to mitigate the risk posed by the above.

It would be logical that domestic flights to and from Auckland get the same screening treatment as the roads. I would hope that this is allready happening.

I am keeping the faith this could be OK as the water testing isn't going nuts, so fingers crossed.

Level 3 isn't great for work but I am unable to do it remotely so at least the commute drops dramatically.

We really need to get tougher with crippling fines.

BK and Gym guy, needs a minimum $100k fine. So that when they pay $10 from their paycheck for the rest of their life they can remember how they cost the country hundreds of millions dollars, large amounts of stress etc.
The wedding, if anyone ends up with COVID, then ALL attendees get a $10k fine.
The tattoo parlor, if anyone who ends up with COVID, then anyone who booked at the announcement last night also wins a $10k fine.
There is the whole, now body asked for it... 100% agree. But the wedding and tattoo parlor people have gone a long way towards asking for it, and thus should be panelised.

We need to let people know their poor behavior will not be tolerated and large fines are the best we can do (jail is not a good option unless we build a muppet jail)...

Will it stop people getting tested? No, just the Muppets who are at risk of stupid tax fines, but it will get traced to them quick enough. I don't buy the whole we need people to come forward and be tested line, we can't penalise.

We need to be clearer on "isolate". Have a test go home your ENTIRE household is in Level 4 LOCKDOWN. You may not even leave the house to check the mail until you have a negative result AND feel well again.
Finally, here is you COVID test and here is either $$$ in your hand or bank account and a legal document for your employer so they can not fire you.

I don't see how waste water testing is useful?

There were no results when we knew there were active cases in the community

The waste water testing is useful (for North Shore, West Auckland etc), however the problem is that the southern collection point also has the Jetpark facility (with known Covid infections) connected to it... telling us what we already know.

As has been said, maybe nobody will get tested if they made rules like this. Who knows

Or people will be tested because if they do not there will be consequences. Also they would instantly get paid the sick time.

You can't beat stupidity (with fines) - you always have to expect and to deal with it.

sbiddle:

There is no requirement to self isolate after a Covid test awaiting for results, and the MoH website and the flyer you get at the time all says this. You are only required to self isolate if you have had symptoms, and the person performing the test will provide you with further information - this is assuming of source that you have actually told them you've had symptoms.

but why not? if your having the test, on some level you or someone else thinks it could be covid, as why else get tested, even if it is the remotest of chances. you should be isolating till you get the results, as should anyone else in your "bubble". if its negative carry on with your life as normal, if its positive at least you and your bubbles movement has been restricted for a few days.

Indeed. It's outlined in ink as a requirement for symptomatic and lvl 3/4. But fairly sure the verbal directives should be used and bits of paper not handed out.

Should it not be the case still that the restriction from the 23rd would still stand and had been advised?. I believe this is what they are referring to when it comes to 'they should have been...' as it was only 3 days after that advisement and still no all-clear.

The Ministry is advising everyone in a Papatoetoe High School household must stay away from work or any other school, educational facility or community setting (e.g. the supermarket or any other place outside the home). The school remains closed and no students or staff will be able to return until advised by a Medical Officer of Health.

The new case is an older sibling of a student at Papatoetoe High School

Case M developed symptoms on Tuesday 23 February. As a result, the person is regarded as being potentially infectious from Sunday 21 February.

The person was tested yesterday (Friday 26 February)

And of course the LoIs - City Fitness (20 and 26 February)

You can't just cancel all flights. What should the thousands of people from outside Auckland who are then stuck in Auckland do? What should the thousands of people from Auckland stuck outside Auckland do?

This would be total carnage - which is why flights all ran today. Not to mention flights still need to fly outside Auckland, and planes need to move around. It takes time to organise all of that.

Begin rant/

My wife and I have been in Rotorua since Thursday camping. We were always intending to come home to Auckland today. When I heard the announcement last night I considered packing up and coming home early but after having had a couple of beers that wasn't an option. So we got up at 6am, packed up the camp and got on the road knowing that we'd have to pass through the Southern check point at Mercer to return home.

What an absolute shambles! 4 hours in the beating sun, the queue started as far south as Hampton Downs. I can understand check points being set up to prevent people leaving Auckland unless necessary but why so heavy handed on people trying to return home? Its not like we were travelling from an area with active community transmission. The last 45mins the checkpoint was in sight. In that time not one car had been turned around. Why? because everyone in that queue was in the same boat as us. Just Auckland residents trying to get home. And when we finally got to the check point, what happens. We got waved through without being stopped or asked where we were going or why. Ourselves and at least a dozen cars following waved through without being stopped, and I'm countless others that I did not see.

What an absolutely pointless exercise that was.

End rant/
