Geektastic: If the possible gestation period for Covid is 14 days why would you have a lockdown for less than 14 days?

To assess if the lockdown needs to go up or go down. Why cripple Auckland for 14 days when after a few days you have accounted for all contacts who are isolating and being tested.

I did wonder about that, I guess what struck me is the sudden queues. Unless Sunday queues are not unusual? The same with road traffic which was both inwards and outwards, that was also newsworthy. Then again, its NEWS, so perhaps this wasn't anything abnormal, but newsworthy due to the lockdown. I just hope those leaving take due precautions.

If i recall, road blocks checking for validity to travel was extended further than roads - to air too

This would have meant enforced protocols at the airport along with delay to do the checks

A great number of students start canty (it was o week) otsgo. Mix that with the large events, and you had a butload of visitors needing to get home.

Suspect that wasn't considered, or was, but not as newsworthy than making it look like there was a mass exodus along with the 5hr road blocks

Also there would likely be an uproar from businesses etc if they just came out and said 14 days. That isn't to say that it won't be 14 days or longer depending on how much it has spread. It does show the problem though of having these MIQ inside NZs largest city and crippling some of the businesses in that city. .

There are also facilities inside the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 12th largest cities too, but none of them have had to lockdown yet as a result. Perhaps populations of those cities are smart enough to be able to follow the rules?

MIQ is not the cause, people are. It goes back to do you want to ban returning citizens or put MIQ in prison. Over 100,000 have returned. There is blame, I've read it in the news over the past week. Its about time someone took ownership, if lockdown persists, you can point the finger, none of this don't blame anyone malarky, there is blame. Bill that person 40 million a day

Perhaps those populations have gotten lucky so far. Perhaps you may recall the Wellington roadtrippers.

Perhaps then the 21st century is the century of lack or ownership and responsibility. We don't live in a Communist state, maybe you forgot that

So the PM has revealed the link from last family has been closed

A mixed family gathering. Under level 3. Previously undisclosed
That shouldn't have.

Just saw that. Not doing the right thing then when interviewed as part of the contact tracing process, did not disclose. I guess when the Govt says we have sealed off all contacts, they can add, apart from the ones we were lied to. Probably not surprising, get told not to do this or do that, and didnt want to disclose they broke the rules, so they buttoned it.

I think I read there are 1500 contacts being checked? Some experts predict there will be a large number of cases in this outbreak. Given the large number of contacts, where they have been and possibly more lies that have caused unknown leaks, it seems inevitable

And this is why punishments will not work at all, young people will not come clean due to the fear of recrimination.

And perhaps in the 21st century, if we don't get our sh*t together to restore "social trust", then we're headed for a series of ongoing disasters that we'll never overcome without losing the benefit of the "freedoms" that we enjoy.

"We've been lucky so far" might be wrong, repeatedly managing to contain "lapses" in containment might actually be evidence that rather than "luck", the right balance has been consistently struck.
