GV27:

So no new cases, that's encouraging? Nothing showing up on waste-water tests but still a few important test to come in.

Sounds like another lucky break with the community spread not getting as far ahead of us as it conceivably could have.

Encouraging, but it has a long incubation cycle. It was also encouraging last time, dropping back down levels, but didn't work.  Not sure which is better, going up and own levels, or staying up a level longer to make sure it has gone.

Maybe the ratio of idiots, to good people doing the right thing favours the latter. Which makes it bad luck we have the former but good management by the latter

I can't see them rushing to uncork things, but I'm also incredibly bewildered that this more contagious variant hasn't spread its wings like it was feared it could. You know, again.

Me too.  One of my best mates is a front line nurse in London, and he was telling me the other day that the most notable difference between the UK variant and the original Covid virus was that teenagers were getting sick and presenting with symptoms.   For the original strain he saw very few teenagers turning up to the hospital.   I'm sure they were getting infected, but just weren't getting ill.

Edit: typo

So what? You're not talking about having a cop watching them. You're talking about burning the heretics.

As I said in my post fines do work for on the spot offences, not once you get into contact tracing. I've seen the practical effects.

Incidentally you still haven't answered who is the "affected population".

Sorry dude, 2 parts to that 1- I copied and pasted the quote from Reddit - that was at the bottom and not my words.

2 - The affected population is Sth Auckland. If you're in South Auckland, and you're sick and there's COVID going around, you're poopng in your own neighbourhood by then going around going to the Gym etc.
Arguably it takes a psychopath to be likely infected with COVID and then going straight to the Gym to spread it.

Also multiple people arguably lied by ommision by failing to disclose their ties to a known COVID family during L3 lockdown, which caused the entire population of 5 million people to go into lockdown.
This should be punished. Enough tiptoeing around the daisies here - these families breaking L3, and then not telling the tracers has wrought untold destruction on our collective psyche.

And you're saying - don't punish them for not being honest, because then others won't be honest? I mean come on, that's shutting the stables after the horse has bolted...

They are your words - you reposted them. You clearly agreed with them. Saying you can't trust the whole of South Auckland is daft. You can't trust the whole country or anyone really.

You are working from theory. I'm working from experience. Fines or prosecution during contact tracing won't work. I know because they tried that here and dropped it when they found it caused far more problems. On the spot fines work. Fines and prosecution after the fact doesn't.

If you want to burn someone for being a witch, fine, but don't pretend it will have a positive effect. It hasn't anywhere else and it won't.

The one thing that may be the factor is not long periods of sustained close proximity contact with others.  It looks like none of them use public transport, go to church, go to bars, concerts etc where would be in close proximity to others.

Also, wonder if the fact it is still quite warm weather that may lessen the life of the virus particles.

freitasm: The problem with the Tamaki family is they would shout "We are being persecuted" or "The government is making us pay a fine to silence us and silence you" and so on, leading their followers to stop abiding by regulations that keep us all safe.

But yes, these people deserve nothing from us, except scorn.

Bingo.

[Brian] said he intends to take legal action against the "discriminatory and defamatory" statements published by a wide range of news organisations - including RNZ, The Herald, Stuff and Newshub. Brian accused media organisations of "striving to silence his voice".

He also "believes he acted responsibly" in flouting the rules.

Had a planned NZ tour. Left AKL the night of announcement to continue to do it. Request that anyone who was in akl that period basically play safe. meanwhile is holding large number gatherings around the country.

None of that is flouting a rule.

Immoral and irresponsible sure but not actually flouting any rules.

Brian Tamaki and wife Hannah left Auckland late on Saturday night and arrived in Rotorua

Level 3 began on Sunday. What is the rule flouted?

Nuked it after I spotted. However stop attacking me. It's the lady they quoted in the interview and subsequently published that said it was flouting.

A Te Anau resident was not happy seeing Mr Tamaki in town.

People in Te Anau believed they were relatively safe from Covid-19 as the town was so far away from any outbreaks, she said.

The visit from Mr Tamaki reinforced that it only took one visitor not following the rules to change that.

"It’s a conscious decision to flout the rules," she said.

The minister and DoH have however both said it was expected of them. And he's taking it out on media that shouldn't have given the time in the first place.

It's still COVID. The spread is a bit weird, like it has always been.

Once you have someone who is highly infectious the new variants go bonkers but generally seem to be spread indoors. Some people spread it like wildfire, some don't.

One workplace here had 40 people infected in a week, others have multiple infected people come and no infections. We've been close contacts 4 times this year, so far we're ok but luck runs out sooner or later.

Yup. "'laws" perhaps. "Rules" is a possibly a bit ambiguous in meaning, like a "please don't feed the monkeys" sign at the zoo.

If Brian Tamaki follows through with suing all NZ media for calling him out for being a dickhead when it certainly looks to me like he was being a dickhead, it should be entertaining.
