Batman: Let me get this straight. This guy that has been everywhere...

They don't know how he got the infection correct? That means...

Yes.

It's likely in the wild having 2 chain links different to the previous cluster thought closed.

Seems to be a case we see with the Akl cases. After so many relaxed times. One blokes decided to go get tested. Oh look. I got it. Mad rush for others thinking 'perhaps I should, I've not felt good recently' or those who went to the places associated. Find more.

I think in NZ terms this is a guy from Albany who didn't know he was Covid-infected and went to Queenstown and had a really good time there. Genomic testing then shows he's part of a South Auckland cluster that was closed a fortnight ago, and to which he has absolutely no known epidemiological link.

I'd expect the PM to go Level 3 nationwide here.

One of the problems is that there are two state governments involved, so no necessary coordination
:(

wellygary:

Byron Bay is part of the wider Northern Rivers region of NSW that is well known for its counterculture movements,

Unfortunately this has now extended to include the Anti-vaxx tribes, and presumably the COVID sceptics..

There are historically low vaccination rates here, and I suspect use of QR check in codes and registering visits could also be low...

Could be hard work for contact tracers... esp with the cross border aspect thrown in ....

True, but most of the hippies have long been priced out of Byron Bay itself.  The (B/M)illionnaires and movie stars moved in, the demographic seems to be much the same as Queenstown these days.  You're far more likely to bump into your kid's orthodontist than the flower people you used to know - who departed urban life to go to the Aquarius festival in Nimbin in '73 and never came back.

I wonder if the 10 cases today on the same flight which landed Saturday all got their negative test at the same place!

And at the same price?

Questions are being asked about the efficacy of our Covid-19 pre-departure test scheme, with reports of people being offered fake negative Covid-19 test result certificates at a cost.

Gibraltar nears full vaccination; 79.3% fully vaccinated & a further 12.6% have had the first dose (all Pfizer/BioNTech).  I assume the percentages are of the population over 16 as that is the demographic they have been vaccinating.  Also extended to more than 10,000 workers from Spain who regularly cross the border into Gibraltar.

https://edition.cnn.com/interactive/2021/health/global-covid-vaccinations/

Their curfew has been eliminated and mask-wearing mandates are soon to be eased to cover only indoor spaces and public transport.

Now serving as a real-time case study of a fully vaccinated population. https://www.thelocal.com/20210328/gibraltar-eases-into-normality-as-it-nears-full-vaccination/

Still require masks in indoor public spaces though!

Which of course means almost 92% have had at least one dose (and they expect to get to near 100% in the next two weeks).  Clearly no strong anti-vax sentiment in Gibraltar.

Possibly suggests the uptake of COVID vaccination might end up being be higher than some have feared

Looks like we are all thinking of the same questions - and are being asked now it would appear.

As much as we stay on the side of conclusion cautions, OneNews story went straight for the jugular and requested info of MoH. 10 today from India. All captured at 0-day. Italian at day 1. And statistics show 50% of all MiQ caught have been. With the US not far behind.

One case arrived on Friday from Italy via Singapore and tested positive in routine day one testing.

The remaining 10 cases arrived into New Zealand on the same flight from India via the UAE on Saturday and tested positive in routine day 0 testing.

“Additional testing including whole genome sequencing will help indicate whether any of the cases are related,” the ministry said in a statement.

There's pressure to look into the test-before-fly conditions.

The vast majority of people will get vaccinated. As always it'll be combination of factors that drives it but most objections go away once most of their friends are vaccinated without ill effects. There's a herd/lemming/FOMO effect that takes hold when it hits a critical mass.

Yes but the question is who gave it to him who gave it to that person who gave it to..

How does that work? Do they not have kids in Gibraltar, or are they vaccinating kids despite no vaccine having completed testing on those 15 or under?

That demographic make's up around 20% of NZ.

I suspect there is a significant error in the CNN data.

I suspect two words were omitted or the story has been misquoted:

So it really sounds like the bus exercise visits in Auckland really were a shambles. Hipkins on the radio this evening admitting there was no allocated seating, some people on the bus who were not wearing masks, and the person who did test positive had reported symptoms the day before which is why they were tested and should not have been there as they should have had their wristband (which allows access outside your room) removed.

How is is that we're still managing to get so many things so wrong?
