There are quick a few non scouse EPL fans that think they should just cancel the league this season. 😇

There could conceivably also be zero cases next week.

Perhaps I am naive, but my assumption when it comes to pandemic planning is that you have options for events like this in the draw ready to go if need be.
Only in the broadest sense. There are so many variables that full planning is impossible.
Lots of medical stuff has a time expiry on it, so you end up throwing out a lot of stuff because of that, or you hold what you hope is enough to allow rotation through the normal use.
There is how quickly is mutates, how quickly is spreads, the demographics of the ill, time of year, etc etc etc etc.
Should we be blaming the previous National government for failing to have a plan already in place for which ever government to be able to use in the future ?
No government is fully prepared, what if this had happened during the global financial crisis ?, the solutions then would be very different today, for a start we have no real buffer in the interest rates

Oh yes - sorry I forgot it's still part of Europe for while.

I assume our government will follow within a few days, as they did for mainland china....

Given the USA abject incompetence in testing and consequent alarming outbreaks there - that went undetected for many weeks, we should probably ban travel from the US as well.
Just to confirm with something else than CNN: Trump announces travel ban between U.S. and most of Europe; WHO declares coronavirus a pandemic.

And the rest. I was a bit bullish early on with this crisis, but Ive turned around fully. This will cause a global recession. China production is coming back on stream but that's no good if half the first world countries are badly infected
Tom Hanks and wife has the virus

I mentioned some, not all. The numbers that the payroll guy gave showed that 60% use all their sick pay and hardly any unpaid leave after that. So, coincidentally they exactly use it up each year. The implication is that some or all are not genuine sick days. The other 40% of us appear to play ball
In a previous role, I ran the sick leave numbers for my team after some concerns were raised. Of the 15 people in my team, two had used exactly their maximum entitlement (20 days) each year for the previous two years. The rest of the team had used variously between zero and ten days each year, with an average of about five. Certainly looked suspicious for the two who were often off sick.

That might help the US public start seeing it as something real - not just figures and statistics about bad stuff happening to "someone else" somewhere out of sight. Tom Hanks though - he's an absolute treasure, damn. I hope he (and his wife) are ok.

Yeah, just read that.... but hopefully if they fully recover they can be part of the demonstration that this is not some "movie disease" that will kill billions,
Apparently they are undertaking population Serology testing in Wuhan at the moment to try to get a better handle on the actual fatality rates for COVID,
Given the wide swings in numbers we are seeing cf Korea and Italy, it would be good to get some more certainty around it...
