BREAKING NEWS ...
John Travolta was hospitalized for suspected COVID-19,
but doctors now confirm that it was only Saturday Night Fever,
and they assure everyone that he is Staying Alive.
Apparently he had chills that were multiplying
:-)

Tom Hanks and wife has the virus
That might help the US public start seeing it as something real - not just figures and statistics about bad stuff happening to "someone else" somewhere out of sight. Tom Hanks though - he's an absolute treasure, damn. I hope he (and his wife) are ok.
Agree, and he is. Not young too I imagine. I can see a major economic crisis now. Trade has to be heavily affected. Either no one to produce or no one to buy with so many countries going downhill fast. We can't put the economies on ice for a few months

In a previous role, I ran the sick leave numbers for my team after some concerns were raised. Of the 15 people in my team, two had used exactly their maximum entitlement (20 days) each year for the previous two years. The rest of the team had used variously between zero and ten days each year, with an average of about five. Certainly looked suspicious for the two who were often off sick.
It could be that they have children and are taking sick days of for them as well as themselves. In our family I do all the sick kid days so I tend to use more sick leave than my partner.

Airline stocks are gonna get caned in the next session (not that they haven't been beaten up already)
If Trump was there to "reassure", he sure as hell didn't reassure "the markets".
DJIA futures were trading over 1% up from close of trade. As soon as he opened his mouth, they started tanking and so far haven't stopped heading South. It's looking very very ugly right now - and that's ugly on top of ugly that's already happened. That said, everything is so volatile, anything could happen. There's panic - the VIX hit about 60. I think the last time it hit that was 2008, the time before that was '87.
The NBA has shut down and no more games will be played , all because of one player , Rudy Gobert, who said that people were over reacting to the Virus and then licked all microphones and recorders to prove a point , he is now confirmed with the virus and most of the NBA players will have to go into quarantine , thus ending the season.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
sir1963:.
it was only Saturday Night Fever,
I'd have given you 10 upvotes for that if I could have done so.
I hate it - but it made me laugh.

I also want to throw the very legitimate use of sick days to extent bereavement leave and mental health days as well. Burnout is real, I can't be mad at people who use sick leave to help manage it.

You could call this the "Rock Hudson Effect". Lets hope so in terms; public awareness and hygiene and of really increasing vaccine resources etc.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

My wife and I share kid sick days. I get more sick days so when hers run out they fall on me.
Kid sick days tend to involve a lot of work from home while the kids sleep /play with lego/trains etc. So not sure they should really be counted as sick days.

They are saying Australia but if you travel you cant be sure.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
How long have they been in NSW does anyone know? Just curious as to who infected them.
Hanks is filming a movie in Australia atm. So I would say he got it in Australia. I think it could be likely one or more crew members have it. They should test the film whole crew ASAP. IMO.

Trump has banned travel between Europe and the USA (with the exception of the UK).

Sounds like the problem is growing over there.
Looks like the USA have now banned all travel to Europe, except for the UK for 30 days. It's starting to get very serious. NZ must surely follow this move?
Also apparently the WHO has now declared this an emergency situation.
