sbiddle:

Why didn't you try searching against your NHI number? This is the key that everything is logged against.

I was just talking to the call center person - They had collected enough data to look up my NHI at their end if it was of value, and they seemed to be genuinely trying there best to help. They said that my first dose being a walk in may be why they couldn't see me in their system.

Covid-19: Large study finds Novavax vaccine about 90 per cent effective

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/300332938/covid19-large-study-finds-novavax-vaccine-about-90-per-cent-effective

For comparison:

  • Pfizer 95%
  • Moderna 94.1%
  • Sputnik V 92%
  • AZ: 76%
  • J+J: 66%

This puts Novavax in the same ballpark as the current top 3 vaccines.

NZ has 10m doses of this on order. If some of our order is going to turn up by the end of the year it might be a good option for those that can't have mRNA vaccines.

Otherwise, the easy storage requirements would make it more useful as a donation to a third world country than pfizer doses.

So I got vaccinated on Sunday in Auckland with no appointment. Was driving past the vaccination center with my father-in-law and we decided to see if we could get it. Told the parking person was here for father-in-law (over 65) and she said to go and then registered, got the injection. Waited around and left. Took about 1 hour. Very small queues.

My partner took mother-in-law yesterday with no appointment but queues were far longer. Took 2.5 hours and she ended up being vaccinated.

Seems later in the day the queues are smaller. If you want to be vaccinated give it a go I guess.

Batman: I thought the trend was most people are on the way up or trying to go on the way up thanks to the delta varient

12 Million drop in active cases in the last 6 weeks. UK, USA are examples of major drops in new cases. Vaccinations obviously work!

Fiji active cases is a reverse of that trend: (From Worldometer)

Approval of the J+J vaccine is on today's agenda for the Medicines Assessment Advisory Committee

https://www.medsafe.govt.nz/committees/maac/Agenda111-15Jun21.htm

I'm guessing it will be approved this time as it was originally assessed in April, but they wanted more info on Thrombosis reactions..

According to the original govt press release

“The agreement with Janssen would see the first doses – up to 2 million – delivered from the third quarter of 2021."

My understanding was the first shipment would be here late July once approved.

That's the J&J, the least effective of the vaccines?

The problem Fiji have is the same issue the UK have got - and that's the performance of the AZ vaccine against the Delta variant.

Real world data is showing it's offering great protection after two doses, but after one it's terrible.. And the problem now is everybody has moved out spacing of the AZ doses to 12 weeks because the longer duration improves overall antibody results of the vaccine.

The UK announced this morning they're moving that back to 8 weeks which will pretty much mean a huge percentage of the country will have had both jabs by the new mid July opening date.

I hate to say it but Fiji have much bigger problems than that.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

And still had 100% efficacy against hospitalization and deaths in their clinical trials.

All the western approved vaccines are extremely effective against serious harm.
