Fred99:

Yep - that's not looking good.  Gladys Berejiklian will be very reluctant to lock down.  ABC news here:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-22/nsw-records-10-cases-bondi-covid-19-cluster-grows-to-21/100233266

VIC would have announced a lockdown by now...

Although pretty much all ( I think bar one) are close/household contacts of existing cases and they were already in isolation....

The thing that is worrying NSW the most is that the testing numbers aren't high enough...

If VIC/WA/QLD move to some form of closed border with NSW I think NZ will follow fairly quickly

Travel bubble= travel trouble.

Giving developments across the (why is it still open?!) ditch, it’s now a case of when, not if.

Humans are learning to live with the virus. Opening was the first step of a long learning process. Remaining closed up would have meant there would be no learning on how to move forward. Why is it still open - the politicians are learning.

This is a bit like asking Phil Goff about the wellington weather :)

"says Sky News contributor Nicholas Reece."

Cr Nicholas Reece was elected Deputy Lord Mayor (of Melbourne) in November 2020, after having previously been elected Councillor in the City of Melbourne in 2016.

I’d rather we learnt after vaccinating, not before, that’s all.

The biggest concern about NSW is the low vaccination numbers - they're still on 20.74% who have had at least their 1st dose, whereas Victoria is now up to 27.38% (and ACT, NT and TAS well into the 30s) and we know that many of these people will have had AZ which only offers moderate protection against the Delta variant after only a single jab.

On the other hand 20% is still enough to offer some level of protection in the community, and is still significantly higher than NZ. I know many people are only focused on 2nd jab numbers but the reality is a single jab does offers a vastly higher level of protection against Covid compared to no jab.

tell those running the country. they would have consulted their modellers and their scientists. maybe they know they won't vaccinate everyone (eg some too young some too sick some refuse), etc etc

or maybe you are right

so now "scientists" say it's definitely the other way round

You mean "two random gimps no-one has ever heard of say it's definitely the other way round". In particular it's an astrophysicist and the owner of some pharmaceuticals company, obviously world authorities on coronaviruses.

i have no idea. if you are interested ->

And quite by coincidence tonights SYD-WLG flight (NZ248) which was scheduled to land at 5 minutes past midnight is now scheduled to land at 11:30pm tonight.

That may well be the favored winds working.

But the multiple people asked by three this evening who had all just landed and purposely bought flights forward to not be stuck aren't coincidental.

They need to make issues like this retrospective. A 5 minutes before flight is safe enough and a 5 minutes after the hour fight is unsafe is obviously not right. I guess that's due to law, but....
