Also if it gets on the loose in Gold Coast/Brisbane then you can be assured it will be here within a day or two - so I support a bubble being closed until Australia gets properly on top of things.
Are Kiwis the biggest whingers in the world? That is a real question. From all the sob stories in the media, you get that impression. Are Aussies better? What about other nationalities?
Some of the sob stories are genuinely moving. Some people really do seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place. But for a lot of them, it seems they just made a bad bet and can't accept that it didn't work out. Is this a fair assessment or not?

Yes. Look at the wailing and gnashing of teeth over every little thing - some recent examples include landlords over healthy homes standards, certain people about the vaccine rollout (despite having the facts explained to them multiple times), travel bubble.
Our media love giving people attention for making their own bad decision but then wanting to make it everyone else’s problem.
Oddly though, if we get served a terrible meal at a cafe most of us will stay say “oh it’s great thank you” when the wait staff ask if everything’s ok.

Not even close, Saffas and Poms are worse far far worse.
I think you will find that the media always picks up on the whingers as they are always the easiest to find and the best for clicks.
"Kiwi stuck in Australia: not a big deal mate, it is what it is" isnt exactly a click grabbing headline is it.
Yes, some of the stories are sad, but we are in the midst of a global pandemic, travel via aeroplane is the fastest way to spread covid over our border, you would have to be mentally stunted to think you can just fly about the place as we used to in the before times. Disruption and closures were spelled out right at the start of the travel bubble, just as with scanning, it seems some people memories are failing them or they think they are a beautiful and unique snowflake, not the same decaying organic matter as everything else.
Hasn't made NZ news yet but Victoria published two new locations last night - the coffee roasters is right next to Air NZ check-in. This is going to affect potentially a lot of people on NZ122 from MEL-AKL yesterday who would have been at the airport during this time.

On one hand. Not sure if I should be offended 🤣. On the other you're not wrong, we absolutely complain about everything.
Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

I can't get my head around only one person from Aus with Covid having come here in the last few weeks.
So with no new cases reported in NZ again today it looks as if our luck still has not quite run out, thankfully. I don’t think we’re out of the woods though given the spread in AU, and this flight attendant case, plus the new locations of interest posted by Mr Biddle.

Still think the bubble was a great idea?

Partner, who has been isolated since his return. Has gone positive. 6 days after returning home. Meaning he WAS infectious toward the end of the trip and passed it to her. Don't count chickens yet. Hence the delays in decisions and extensions right now.

100%
He tested negative, great. Now he's positive. How many concerned Kiwi's got promptly tested and phew, I'm clear?
4 positive cases confirmed so far from the NT mine site. Two still at the mine, one travelled to NSW, one to Palmerston/Darwin.
Darwin in 48 hour lockdown commencing 1pm their time.
I mean we've got the water testing to fall back on before we start panicking about NZ, but it looks like leaving Aus travel for even an extra day would have been hugely risky, so the Govt has definitely done the right thing here.
freitasm:

Yes. And the fact things are working as intended shows that - and even further demonstrates there there was no reason why the bubble should not have been in place earlier.
The Govt can't backtrack now anyway, but there are clearly going to be some fundamental issues they're doing to have to deal with such as the talk of 72hr pre flight testing coming here from Australia. That's going to be a major problem with so much travel only being for short durations. Somebody leaving NZ isn't going to be able to go to Oz for a weekend trip and return unless NZ are going to recognise rapid testing and NZ pushes for rollout of rapid testing at Australian airports... And so many people are only going for short trips to avoid potential issues of being caught in Australia due to a bubble pause.
