UK NHS:

Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

* high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
* new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly

Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.
Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

Plus, don't bother to get tested, it will just make the numbers look bad.

It shows the number of confirmed COVID 19 cases in the USA is almost exactly tracking the number in Italy 11 days prior. Obviously extrapolating data has it's limitations, but if this trend continues, the situation in the USA is going to become very bad in under two weeks.

In short, travel to the USA is very risky at the moment, and there is a good chance that travel from the USA to NZ will be restricted this weekend...

Risk groups are those that are older, male, and have pre-existing medical conditions:

My wife follows a bunch of USA people on social media, and empty supermarket shelves featured lot last night.

I don't fall into any of those groups nor do I have any pre-existing medical conditions.

In my head I think it's fairly safe to visit the US. It's only for a week and won't be going to any supermarkets haha.

Hopefully she has direct communication with experts, rather then relying on twitter. Also hopefully the decision is delegated to an expert, rather tan being made by Jacinda who must be extremely busy.

The statement made on Friday said we are getting dramatically greater travel restrictions, but the impact of those restrictions is going to be so big they needed the weekend to sort out details (such as airfreight of medication) prior to announcement. Personally I would be happy to announce ASAP, and sort the details later.

The big thing that I think is now important is that there is unlikely to be political fallout from harsh travel restrictions. the public is onside with this, and the opposition is criticizing the government for being too slow and not harsh enough.

What I bolded, is that MoH is calling this. They are the experts. Jacinda is the mouthpiece. No doubt the Govt, not MoH will consider relationships with other countries, but I would expect that's a secondary call. She implied US and/or Europe will be restricted. Europe you can guarantee.

It is not just that. Anyone that goes risks bringing it back to NZ. I think that at the very least that there will be 2 weeks self isolation for anyone returning to NZ. I don't think the US will be a fun place to live in at the moment. Places like Disneyland have also closed and I suspect a lot of places will be shutting down for a while and people working remotely.

I agree they are the people to listen to, but it is wrong to assume just because they are making decisions that they are timely and the right ones. Look at the Melbourne GP - pandemic declared, a whole day of on-track action, race not actually cancelled until two hours after the fans were meant to go in and were standing in queues at the gate.

The health minister said we're fine. So yeah you hope she's listening to the MOH. Imagine if Shane Jones or Phil Twyford was health minister. Might as well set up a working group to report back in 3 weeks based on scientific evidence. No, it's her decision, and no, I don't envy her position.

The Hurricanes vs Chiefs Rugby game went ahead
Blues vs Lions at Eden Park appears to be going ahead
The Kumeu Show went ahead today
The Auckland St Patrick's Day parade appears to be going ahead as planned

The cancellations for Pasifika and the Mosque memorial appear to be the exceptions right now, almost everything else is going ahead.

San Francisco won't be fun. Many of the sights, tourist attractions are closed

All gatherings of over 100 people banned. Schools and public offices closed.

Here's a list of some of the latest closures and cancellations in the city.

I was supposed to go to San Jose next week (from Canada) but decided against going.
The flights I was going to take (Air Canada) have been cancelled now anyway.

I can't seem to call Air New Zealand (Get's disconnected when I reach the menu). So it looks like I'm going unless I can get through!

Is it still worth it or would it not be any fun with everything closing?

New Zealand has a sixth case of the coronavirus COVID-19, officials announced on Saturday afternoon.

The patient is a man who arrived here from the US on March 6. He was well last weekend, but became unwell during the week, Waitemata DHB chief executive Dr Dale Bramley said.

He was tested on Thursday, and on Friday was confirmed infected with SARS-CoV-2,, the virus which causes COVID-19.

"The man is currently doing very well and is at home recovering," said Dr Bramley. His wife is in self-isolation, and close contacts are being asked to go into isolation too.

He attended a church service at St Mary's Catholic Church in Papakura at 8:30am.

"We expect the vast majority of people who attended that service will be viewed as casual contacts," said Dr Bramley. He was not symptomatic at the time of the mass.

A "handful" will be considered close contacts, Dr Bramley said.

Its MoH decisions, she goes with what they say. She has no choice unless she has equal medical qualifications and experience. I don't envy MoH position.

Do you also feel the WHO boss is making the decisions? He, like JA makes the decision, but 100% of that is based on what the experts say. But if its convenient to make it political and not medical, the feel free.
