I honestly don't know what they can do except lockdown even harder. The current lockdown is obviously not working. I thought it had the opportunity to get out of control just over a week ago, I believe now its going to be almost impossible for NSW to get back to Zero Covid this year.

NSW's lockdown is basically a holding action... it won't suppress it...

Their main line of attack is to vaccinate their way out.....

Currently they have 1.4 million ppl fully vaccinated with an additional 1.5 million with 1 dose (SYD pop ~5 million)

7 day rolling vaccination numbers are 77K/day  and climbing ( were ~40K/day a month ago)

Envelope maths says....

5 million population, assume 4 million over 16.. to vaccinate 75% of 4 million requires 6 million doses. subtract the ~3 million already administered leaves 3 million doses to give.... @77K/day= ~500K per week., means 6 weeks for 3 million doses. ( maybe sooner if they can continue to ramp and don't run into hesitancy...)

They are holding out for numbers to start declining off the back of more and more fully vaccinated..,.

Its a great big "help me Obi-wan Kenobi you're my only hope"

Then it is going to be dependent on the entire country being vaccinated if the borders reopen anytime soon. They seem to be blaming the Delta strain, but the simple fact is they didn't lockdown early enough, and when they did their lockdowns were not strict. They can't blame Delta when other states locked down far earlier and were able to eliminate it.

I have had my second yesterday, 3 weeks after the first. Today didnt go to work because felt like I had the second half of a hangover in the morning, but seemed to come right by about 2pm.

It won't happen till NSW's fire has gone out....

NZs 32 days of Level 4 followed by 16 days of Level 3 lockdown last year is looking pretty insignificant compared to what is going on across the Tasman since this thing started. Just a really disappointing outcome at this point.

Looks like we will see more distributed vaccine supply sources, as nations see this as strategic technology.

S.Korea pledges nearly $2 bln to become major COVID-19 vaccine producer
https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4265177

""
South Korea plans to invest 2.2 trillion won ($1.9 billion) to become one of the world's five largest COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing bases by 2025, its President Moon Jae-in said on Thursday.
""
Moon said he would designate COVID-19 vaccines as one of three national strategic technologies, along with semiconductors and batteries, aiming to ramp up investment, give tax breaks and offer other incentives to help firms localise materials, parts and equipment.

"We will strive to take a leap forward to become one of the top five global vaccine producers by 2025," Moon told the meeting.

The microchips and vaccines - I know what they're up to - but OMG - why batteries?

The bubble is also likely gone until well into next year at this rate. NSW is now all about vaccination.  Think how many billions they will also losehave now lost with not locking down  earlier, and also the deaths and potentially long term covid illnesses could  have been avoided.

12 new cases reported today at one KFC in Sydney.  Now they're trying to contact trace every customer.  Maybe they could have kept them open with delivery only, but nope, business comes first in the gold-standard state.

If KFC is still open it just goes to show how much of a joke their "hardest in the world" lockdown is...

Batman: Walk in vaccine in Akl

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-people-getting-vaccine-early-despite-not-being-eligible/5WZY2VRDHLF7UBWP3Q6EEL43VM/
I've pointed this out earlier and it's not limited to Auckland.  It's possible to walk in at the right time and score a spare without being eligible.

KFC still open because of the 'very strict rule' that if your primary sales product is food or drink you can remain open. Just like bakeries, butchers, cafes and restaurants

Never mind you aren't meant to actually travel there to get it...

NZ didn't allow that. Basically only supermarkets could open. There was a lot of food wasted as a result, inclding fresh fruit and veges which couldn't be sold.

I remember last year when being able to go to fast food places was the number one news story when we moved down levels.

Not good news from Vic:

Victoria has recorded 29 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19. All of the cases were not in quarantine during their infectious periods
