I'm stuffed.

Blow 6k of Australian beach holiday or 2 weeks non pay on return and pissed off work colleagues because if I'm off they cant have their holiday and they would have to cover my night shifts and Easter would also be affected.

Do I send the wife and kids over by them selves?

You can have your fares held in credit for up to 12 months.

I imagine you will be very happy with that outcome.

Good on Air NZ for doing this, they were not obliged to do so, but their goodwill would have suffered.

I certainly am!

It is a shame that I will have to pay the fare difference when I do intend to travel later in the year, but it is certainly much better than having to fork out another few thousand for an entire new fare!

You should contact your hotel. Most major chains are either refunding or allowing deferment. Similarly with the airlines.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The reason I asked is my partner used to work for a shuttle company which does these types of runs.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

That's why it is seen as closing the country. It still allows NZers to get back. It is common sense but a pity it wasn't at least a few weeks ago.

Even if they are willing, HOW do they do it?

They have to pay for 2 weeks of accommodation somehow
In a hotel, how do they avoid maids, room service, bartender, other guests, front of house staff etc etc?

and as MF pointed out earlier, what happens to people flying in for less than 14 days?

The methodology has more holes than a Swiss cheese.

Hypothetically, Dave X is carrying coronavirus but is asymptomatic when he arrives so does not know.

He paid $30,000 for his trip in NZ. The man at the airport says "Please self isolate, Mr X."

"Sure thing!" and in he comes.

He passes 100 people leaving the airport. Then he arrives at his hotel and encounters another 10. Then he gets bored on the second day and decides to go sightseeing "just for a while to get some fresh air"....

Self isolation isn't the same as quarantine. They appear to believe that this can only be transmitted by prolonged close contact of more than 10 minutes within a metre of someone. Suggest reading what the self isolation requirements are. Many people will do far more than the minimum requirements.

Requirements are worryingly loose. Allows for you to take domestic flights for example...

Transport

You may need to travel across New Zealand to your accommodation, for example, by plane, train or bus. Where possible, sit in a window seat in a row by yourself. If you are unwell you should seek advice from Healthline before you travel.

While travelling make sure you use hand sanitiser regularly. If you need to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth or nose, or you can cough and sneeze into your sleeve.

You should minimise your use of public transport, taxis and ride-sharing apps like Uber. Avoid crowded public transport, especially during rush hour.

10 minutes per day, hour, week? Is it cumulative? It does not appear to say.

Indeed he should. However that would be of little comfort to anyone he infects whilst here.

I am also wondering why people for the islands get a free pass on this?
