Staying with the vaccination theme briefly, I see Singapore now have 81% of 12-39 year olds fully vaccinated, with a further 8% having had their first dose (all effectively either Pfizer or Moderna).

Interesting; I work in Financial Services and during Level 4 2020 it was considered an essential business and I was an essential worker suppling support to the at home workers.

This time around with the updated information, Financial Services are no longer listed as essential. I wonder what changed, or if it's just an oversight.

I still have my 2020 letter and I've been drafted into the office already (just like last year) so I shall see what happens.

This just gets worse. There isn't even any information for businesses for L4 - did nobody from MBIE or AoG think we'd have L4 again? Everything relating to the old L4 was pulled - why were replacements not ready to go live?

Right now there appears to be no real source of information for essential businesses and things like health orders for mandatory mask wearing might happen tomorrow. Did nobody listen to the warnings last week that we should be ready for a lockdown?!

Arguably the reality is worse (more farcical perhaps) because it is actually there - just no link to it from that menu. If you go to Business and Money and then Businesses there is a link to: https://covid19.govt.nz/business-and-money/businesses/doing-business-at-alert-level-4/

No it wasn't there either - even the business.govt.nz official site had nothing, but things had obviously gone up between me posting and you looking at the page. Content is on both pages this morning.

This content should have all been online at 6pm - infact you could argue it should have always been online. You had everybody warn us last week that any lockdown would be a short, sharp L4 shutdown and we had had to be realistic that it was when, not if, that would occur.

How is anybody supposed to plan for that scenario when they can't even reference L4 guidelines on official Govt websites?

Briefly changing the subject!

Israel has now given 3rd doses to well over 60% of people 70 and older, and over 50% of the 60-69 age group (& now increasingly giving 3rd doses to the 50-59 group).

Will be interesting to see how this impacts the numbers of seriously ill patients and deaths, the former now approaching the Sep-Oct 20 peak (and ~half the Jan 21 peak).

Daily case numbers now exceed all but those during the Jan-early Feb 21 peak.  On present trends even that could well be exceeded soon (8646+new cases yesterday, which is the 9th largest daily total since the start of the pandemic).

The world seems to have a strange fixation with Israel and Covid case numbers, but the reality is their rollout has all but stalled with a significant percentage of the population who are simply unwilling to be vaccinated. Once they hit high 50's of the total population vully vaccinated in April things have basically gone nowhere.

Getting back to the vaccine rollout being paused, it does seem crazy that this is happening.. But the problem is many of the places now offering it such as GP clinics and pharmacies can't seem to immediately move to operating under L4 rules so they've made the decision to suspend everything.

I don't understand the new mask rules (more the fact there aren't any). Why is it still going to take 24 hours for cabinet to discuss and announce the new mask rules?

Surely this was a basic requirement of a new L4 that mask use outside the home would be mandated? Why hasn't this already been done so it could be immediately announced as part of L4 restrictions?

She said there are (in my words) legal stuff to do, but I agree, Delta is different, pass those Regulations while we wait for the inevitable outbreak

Scott3:

I was very surprised by the call to pause vaccinations for 48 hours.

The vaccination center I went to (mt wellington) was very much set up as though we were at a higher alert level than level 1. Distanced queues, seating, masks issued to everybody etc.

Realistically any vaccination in this time period isn't going to have a material positive impact on the effectiveness of the lockdown, but I thought we would keep going with it as a backup incase the lockdown failed (always a possibility...) and we end up in a NSW style saga.

Perhaps the government wants to pull all the nurses / resources from their larger vaccination centers and re-deploy them to doing swabs for the next two days. That is something I would support.

PM said the sole reason was ensuring that public and vaccinators are in a safe environment. But I would have thought that as part of a Alert Level 4 Delta preparation there would be a BCP in place if and when we get L4. That would still take time to set up, so maybe there is a plan, and 48 hours is set aside to do that?

Yep.  I had to reschedule as I was booked in tomorrow.  A minor hassle to me but things like that probably a major problem for some people.  I guess the hope will be that if the outbreak is seen to in one region, then they can look at possibilities like drive-through there, but resume  the normal rollout elsewhere if alert level can be dropped.

Fingers crossed on that...

Because these 4 new cases were confirmed quickly, hopefully a close/family contact of the first case and caught in the early stages - not an unconnected case who rocked up for testing yesterday because they were unwell.
