Stupidity knows no bounds. I guess one has to pay the local toilets or carpark or library by credit card in Coromandel

Covid-19: Coromandel mayor lax on scanning despite community scare | Stuff.co.nz

I guess the problem is that bank records are still a valid method used for contact tracing. Until we had the Covid app they were one of the primary methods.

There are still Countdown stores that have their (now very outdated) signage up telling people if they're not using electronic payments to make sure they sign in manually at checkout. You can't really blame people for saying these things if they're being presented information that tells them this.

I had sinus surgery last week (turbinate reduction) which is in part due to my allergy issues. It was bad timing getting this done at the same time as the pine pollen - if I needed a Covid test right now my nose is so blocked from the surgery recovery and pollen that I'm not sure the brain probe would get up it!

I have booked a video consult with my GP just to check.

A complication right now is Allergy season. On the hills around where I live the Wattle trees are in bloom and everything has a yellow film. Our caravan is covered in it. Having a screwed immune system I have very bad Hayfever now, blocked Sinus, runny nose, cough etc.

wow...

Just listening to ZB and they had a caller who is the employer of the auckland nurses fiancee. He came into work as sick as a dog on monday and tuesday (his words) and had close contact with around 20 staff and customers. He's not heard from MOH and has been imploring those people to get tested.

I'm calling BS / disinformation on that

If the statement is true, then the alleged caller has IMO made a statement that would open them up to prosecution under the Health & Safety Act. The caller states that they are the employer of a person who attended their place of work in an obviously unwell state, and they failed to send this obviously-unwell employee home. IANAL, but if there was even one infection, that sounds to me like an open and shut case of failing to take all reasonable steps to ensure the H&S of other employees and/or customers.

As we used to say at my former employment when considering H&S matters "OK, so if the brown stuff hits the whirly thing, who's going to prison?". Seemed to concentrate the mind of senior managers most effectively

My post was about 3rd doses, where (in 'defiance' of WHO) the percentages are much higher than almost any other country.

Do you have an inkling of why WHO might not be endorsing "third doses"?

...

Typical arrogant posting from you!

Yes, I do know (and agree with then).  The "in 'defiance' of WHO" was purely a comment.  Regardless of justification, it will provide data on resulting impact (if any) of a third dose on case rates etc.

Well I suppose the good news is that we are quickly identifying more cases and they are linked,  getting us closer to origin.
Very big wake up call that the old 'heroic' struggling to work when sick should be unacceptable.
I do remember at a prior workplace an ex nurse being appalled at the typical tech working culture, along with other toxic stuff.

So was my response.  Other people read this forum and - just like me - can't read your mind.

That article contains lots of details that are concerning. I short the cases occupations / lifestyles will have resulted in many contacts. The following specifically mentioned:

  • School
  • Hospital
  • Nightlcub
  • Church

Also the Nurse does not work anywhere near the covid-19 area's in the hospital, so won't be the point of origin. (but it is possible they were infected at work from another worker who was infected by the covid-19 case at the hospital.

As above, Case A (Devonport 56 year old) might not be the source.
This could be a key sentence in that article:

"He did know that the flatmate who worked with the Devonport tradesman, his father had recently returned from Australia."

So possibly:

  1. Father of flatmate returns from AU, passes onto flatmate 1
  2. Flatmate 1 passes onto 56 year old tradesman employer
  3. Flatmate 1 passes onto other 3 flatmates (incl Nurse + Teacher)

Some reports are suggesting the nurse may be the initial community case, or that this outbreak came from an infected MIQ person being treated at Auckland hospital.

That leads me asking why are we taking MIQ people particularly those with known infection our public hospitals for treatment?

Aren't we just asking for an outbreak?

Why don't we have a dedicated facility just for this purpose? Perhaps something like a military hospital. Yes, I know it will cost to have it sitting there, but the costs of an outbreak are significant and the lockdown is extremely disruptive.

I wonder if the pause in vaccinations is the reason why the vaccine booking website doesn't allow me to book, even though I am now in the age group that opened today.

Gulp. We're all cringing the same then.

The closed return bubble was some time ago...

Funny how theres always a sudden influx of sick people needing testing AFTER the announcement. Sigh.

That Herald article read to me like someone trying to explain details of someone else's family tree or all the begats in Genesis.

I gave up - it's only half an hour until the daily update.
