sbiddle:

The PM says "but people are all being told before it's public" which is quickly frankly a load of PR spin and simply not true. Telling a cafe owner is very different to being able to contact the people that would have been in all the other stores and restaurant on Tuesday.

To quote directly from the Facebook website of one of the new Johnsonville LoIs:

Please give some thought to our hard working Team, some will not even know of this news yet. They do a fantastic job and they will certainly look forward to seeing you all again soon.

So clearly the businesses are NOT being notified in advance; or not well enough in advance to give time to tell their own staff...

sbiddle:But home deliveries are contactless. While it might be nice if they did wear a mask, there is certainly no legal requirement to do so.

I understand that, but the guidelines say to wear a mask when outside on the Street.

Should they not be setting an example when they also have to wear them instore and it is their own branded truck doing the delivery?

There is no legal requirement to wear a mask while outside. Period. I'm not sure what you're expecting a company to justify why they're fully complying with the law. Even instore not all supermarket staff need to wear masks. The only ones that need to are those that are customer facing.

There should be a requirement for masks to be mandatory outside the home but there isn't. When the government created new mask laws on Wednesday they decided there was presumably no need.

I noticed a few checkout supermarket staff are wearing a clear plastic face shield instead of a mask over their mouth and nose. I would have thought they should also have a mask over their mouth and nose to contain spray droplets, which is how I have seen these shields used by people overseas. Are their rules on this?

I can't be bothered debating a point I did NOT make. I said guideline NOT legal requirement.

We are trying to be safe, anyone responsible should set an example - don't look for excuses.

Face Shields are an in. 'Face Covering' (it doesn't stipulate mask silly enough) are an out.

A face shield is not the same as a face covering. They're totally ineffective and completely pointless both for themselves, and people around them.

Are there rules? It probably comes down to interpretation.

One think I have noticed in the past few days is that wearing a mask for extended periods (ie, my lunchtime walk) leaves me with a dry mouth for several hours after wearing the mask.

That, or the dozen Aucklanders that were in the office on Tuesday or my co-worker who came back from Auckland on Wednesday and arrived straight into the office to be an essential worker have given me COVID and now I am spreading it around thinking I just get a weird dry mouth when I use a mask.

During the previous level4 lockdown, scooters were removed etc (Like Lime or whatever Brand is authorized now) from the Streets.

I have just seen a Scooter Collector/Juicer or whatever they are called today collecting them on a trailer.

They shouldn't be on the Streets now!

Yeah. Ok. We know.

There's also 'only a fool breaks the 2 second rule'. But noone goes hauling others up for it.

I didn't think they looked right. Whenever I have seen videos overseas of people using them, they have also worn a mask underneath. These shields had the supermarkets branding on them, so presume the supermarkets provided them. But most staff seemed to be using their own fabric masks.

So what do we call those who break Covid safety rules?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
