Traffic increase past my place: (Low count Tuesday, as was set up that day!)

As at 2pm today 50% more than the whole of yesterday!

Interesting experiment!

Today is the first day after hearing we were due to potentially be back open.

People are re-stocking. Supermarket are lines galore and full carparks.

Its all pretty expected

I got back an hour or so ago from walking to the top of the Port Hills and back.  There are a lot of people out walking and cycling, a lot of them drive to where they start.  Far more people up there than over the past few days.

Incidentally, wore a surgical mask while walking 1/2 way up (until clear of houses and in the countryside), it's a reasonable climb (~500m to the top).  Didn't have any issues with breathing or sunglasses fogging up - as I'd had with the N95 type masks.  Everybody seemed to be taking distancing seriously, not just the ones who always avoid me 'cause I'm usually wearing my tight lycra red bodysuit with tail and cap with goat horns, trident for a walking stick - except on Sundays.

I've got an ANPR camera setup outside our place.

Average detections per day for the 30days before lockdown 136.

Average detections per day since lockdown: 85.

Comparing this to the ~30 detections per day from the first level 4 lockdown last year, the people of west Auckland aren't taking this one quite so seriously

What is the location - main road, local street, local town centre, on a road leading to a supermarket, ...?

Fairly meaningless without knowing that.

My only excursion from home since lockdown was into Orewa yesterday to get my second vaccine dose.

Traffic on streets in Orewa was much lighter than normal and the town centre largely deserted.  The only carparks I saw with significant numbers of cars were the medical centre and the adjacent supermarket (did not go past the other supermarket but presumably the same applied there).

Edit: spelling

A side street in between two main roads

You may not like JA's pressers, but they're infinitely better than the Aussie ones, the NSW ones an incredibly dire example of lost souls (Berejiklian and Hazzard) telling their community how naughty they are, blame-shifting, dodging questions.  Catastrophic consequences - I get the feeling that what people get from the whole debacle is that they're doomed.  Put that on top of two failed months of lockdowns - it would do your head in.

I watch the NSW ones to see who she's going to snap at or tell off today.

Doesn't know the meaning of short precise answers like our PM. Rambles on and repeats herself shifting blame

To the point I saw this recently. It's damn accurate

They have got protests going on in the streets at the moment.

The problem in NSW is there previous lockdowns last year worked because it wasn't as contagious. They failed this time because they weren't able to adapt to Delta being more contagious, and needed a more strict lockdown.

i'm in south Christchurch and I've also noticed an increase in traffic today. On the Waka Kotahi cameras it looks pretty dead overall.

You have to wonder that by and large we're not taking this lockdown as seriously as last time, especially when you see this.

Perhaps there needs to be a lot more publicity around staing in your bubble, staying in your neighbourhood etc.

Am seeing a lot of foot traffic however. Also seeing a lot of people without masks around Hagley park and some people who don't even have them on properly.

It's a bit infuriating.

Ch 7 news were circulating rumours (strongly denied of course) that she's on the verge of being dethroned or resigning.

Some of the best journalism from Australia these days seems to be from the Betoota Advocate.  NSFW (unless you're WFH maybe) link that you'll have to edit the * and replace with the obvious - 'cause GZ won't let me post the URL: https://www.betootaadvocate.com/headlines/*uck-it-lets-just-skip-the-700s-altogether-says-nsw/

I'm sick of all the self congratulatory stuff that goes on before we get any real information. Much prefer to read the relevant details afterwards.

Yeah well it's not.

It's thanking people who are doing the right thing - as in most of us.

More people wanting info on LOI's that is very slow in coming.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/126143667/covid19-in-wellington-more-locations-of-interest-revealed-as-capital-waits-for-more-information

The airports data should be pretty easy based on the timing of the flight.

You have to wonder about some of the other info. It seems pretty obvious that the delays are around the lack of scanning, they were pretty quick to praise the tradie from Devonport for scanning. There's been no such praise this time. Why can they not come out and say the contact tracing has been severely hindered in this situation by the lack of scanning and this lack of scanning is now putting other people's lives at risk. We are too namby pampy in the way we deal with things like this. We might hurt someone's feelings. People need to realise their actions might have serious consequences for someone else.

Especially since you're not meant to be driving anywhere to get "Exercise" (or just sit around on the beach like it looks like a bunch of people are doing)
