Sort of shutting the stable door stuff though, isn't it, when your country is at Level 4 because it got out into a largely unvaccinated population?

Not really. Vaccines wont help an outbreak, it still spreads. If we all got vaccinated, the reality is that's its hard getting past 60%, and places that have such as Iran, are still having major issues. We are 1/4 fully vaccinated and 1/2 one jab, thats pretty good so far. The 50% fully vaccinated is one jab away

Your definition of "pretty good" is quite different from mine!

They absolutely change the potential outcomes though. It's great we're hitting these numbers now, but it's kind of disingenuous to claim we're vaccinating at a higher rate per head of population than other countries were at their peaks when those peaks for those countries were months ago and we're in lockdown now.

Batman: You want to have taken your morning coffee with a healthy dose of hope and beg for forgiveness for laughing at at NSW before reading this

https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/126190729/covid19-cases-among-essential-workers-could-spell-end-of-elimination-strategy

I thought it was hilarious.  Unfortunately some people believe what they read.

Two journalists write opinion piece and start their article with the word "ANALYSIS" in capital letters and bold, misrepresenting themselves as authorities in something they're not.

Then cherry pick comments from actual real experts to fabricate a story that's intended to give the impression that the Auckland outbreak is just like the Sydney outbreak.

Yeah, I also thought this ‘analysis’ piece was on the way to being an attempt at scaremongering, and worried at the damage it could do to the public’s trust.

I had hoped that Siouxsie Wiles’ response to Rodney Jones earlier in the week may have been a sign of a rebalancing of perspectives, but it wasn’t to be…

If anyone missed it, here’s her response:

Edit: And here’s a more recent thread from her: https://mobile.twitter.com/SiouxsieW/status/1431442811438596097

I guess we could have jabbed everyone 6 months ago to keep you happy. I hear the UK vaccines are going well, as is the virus.

Other countries? I mentioned one country, and all I said was that they vaccinated well and early, and its still a problem. Yes, it does improve the outcomes, as does lockdown

People with any potential risks from blood clots including any examples of family history are being turned away from being given Astra Zeneca in Aussie. Something to consider if you’re intending on getting a cross-dose.

Herald is throwing numbers before the standup again

And dangerous headlines for a nation of people that read the headline or top sentence and not the content

Dr Richard Webby: 'We'll all catch Covid-19 eventually'

Spoiler - one of them said the way NZ has handled it. Is the best approach. But because other nations are not doing it, we are at their mercy.

Something many of us have aligned with.

She's been reading this thread or taking advice form Chris Bishop.

How can 3/4 of yesterdays cases be contacts infections, when 1/2 of yesterdays cases were household cases. There is an overlap as households are contacts, so where did that extra 1/4 come from? Cross bubble contact?

Well

That's better than 1218 and 6 deaths. (NSW)

At least there goes more detail on the inter-household numbers and businesses of concern being investigated.

That will bring more clarity

And a bit less of happy-happy at the start, straight to Dr B

Our hospitalisation and ICU admissions seem to be much in line with NSW, allowing for some "catch up" for mainly new cases to progress to more serious illness. AB suggested current hospitalisation rate in about 6%. I expect that may increase.

25 exposures outside of household, it was 16 on the 27th.

Only 21 cases from all of the 500 LOI's, and spread from those was "relatively limited" so obviously household.
