Personally I lean towards the incompetency option. I don't buy the misstep of an aide making a mistake. There would have been multiple discussions around the delivery schedule which as the minister he would have been part of. He should have know the correct date. If he didn't.....?

As much as I don't want this to be a conspiracy, the fact we seemingly have confusion over a date still doesn't explain other things.

For months there has been talk around our freezer capacity and only being able to store 4m doses meaning we would need to push back our final orders through to October as we had insufficient capacity to store the whole order if it was received in September. We've even talked about it in this thread.

What if this is what we have done, and now we're now frantically trying to get those doses we might have pushed back here earlier?

Level 1 as it was should be gone for the foreseeable future. Public masking should probably become the norm.

I don't believe we can operate as a country at level 2 long term, plus I don't see the population as a whole putting up with it either. Sure there may be some small changes to level 1 but there will have to be a return to level 1.

You certainly can operate under level 2, it's what most of the rest of the world has done for the last 18 months. Whether or not the population will accept it is another story but it's certainly possible.

having it go to sleep on your chest on the couch so your partner can rest. Good luck.

This sounds amazing, where do I sign up?

Unfortunately we have literally in the last week started the first big sleep regression and not being able to lean on inlaws (one set only 5km away but we can't lean on for support to and the other stuck in Chch and unable to travel back) is going to be a huge mountain to climb on our own.

The first year of having a baby is amazing but also pretty sh1tty. I don't envy you, it's hard enough without lockdown.

Doing your best is enough. It won't feel like it but it is.

That is really the decision NZ needs to make. But we also need to accept that the health system needs improving to allow this, because even with very high vaccination, people in NZ will get covid and that puts pressure on the health system. Either continue with stopping the virus at the border or living with it. I am not sure what Chinas approach is going to be long term as they are more about eliminating it, and have relatively few cases. NZ has more cases per day.

If anyone was interested in tracked changes on a few of the pages..

Business in LVL3

My addon noticed these Added:

To help you prepare for the Alert Level change, you are permitted to go onto your business premises before Wednesday.

This includes making sure you have systems in place for contact tracing, contactless payment, pick up and delivery, physical distancing and good hygiene practices.

  • customers stay 2 metres apart, including when waiting in line to pick up a contactless order. If your business is allowed customers on site and physical distancing is difficult, you may need to implement a "one-in, one out" policy.
Face coverings

Your employees must wear a face covering at work if they:

  • work at a supermarket, dairy, petrol station, licensing trust, pharmacy, food bank, self-service laundry, hardware store, butcher, fishmonger, greengrocer, shopping mall, bank or New Zealand Post
  • work in the public-facing area of a court, tribunal or social service provider
  • are a delivery driver to residential addresses — delivery drivers only need to wear a face covering when they are out of their vehicle
  • they are a driver of a taxi, ride-share vehicle, ferry, bus or train used for public transport — this excludes school buses and ferries between the North Island and South Island.

And a new section for working at someones home & travelling the boundries.

It would be nice if someone could set up Mercer with a high resolution Webcam, so we can see the entertainment.
People trying to sneek through the barrier now they know its two more weeks without KFC.

Re masks, there is a bit of hrrrm online at present.

One of the latest official sponsored reach FB posts from unite against pushed past me was for face coverings. And ooooh boy it didn't disappoint. (1100+ comments)

Turns out, their Social media person appears to be advising you do not need to produce or show an exemption card to anyone that asks - such as a supermarket security guard (where have we seen that before..).

I don't quite know how that works with battling right to refuse entry to private property (yes, a supermarket is one, it is not our right to enter).

It is as they say, a very dangerous ground with discrimination on one side, and right to refuse on the other.

From Capital and Coast DHB

This card has been developed by the Ministry of Health specifically for those who cannot wear face coverings safely or comfortably due to a disability or health condition. The use of this card is self-regulated and decided upon by the individual. However, the Ministry of Health encourage people to do the right thing and only use this Exemption Card if you need to.

Unite against COVID-19

Kia ora, you do not need to show a doctors certificate for not wearing a mask. Please contact the store owner to give your feedback. Please do not claim an exemption unless you have a genuine need. Wearing a face covering helps keep you and others safe.
..
Kia ora , if any businesses deny you service and you have a genuine mask exemption, please contact the store directly to express your concerns.

Thinking that Hipkins deliberately "lied" is sheer and utter idiocy.

You conspiracy theorists need to get a grip on yourselves.  It's pathetic.

He's certainly lied previously as has Ardern. At best they've put spin on the truth for public buy in that don't bother checking facts. They're all politicians at the end of the day and they have a reputation to uphold. If they're going to blame it on their aids not having the right info maybe they should employ people capable of reading and interpreting facts for what they are.

The public hang off their words. And when they're caught in a lie or a "mistake" they need to say "sorry we got that wrong" I've never heard that from them but then again politicians aren't known for saying sorry or admitting they were wrong. You'll only catch this stuff if you actually watch other countries and know they're factually wrong. It's nothing to do with conspiracy theories. It's about getting facts wrong... whether it's due to an aid or deliberate or other I can't say but... some things I think... they should know their facts on. And they don't. Hence I won't be voting for them in the next election. Labour are capable of lying and covering their butts as is every other politican. But they're in govt right now and they're responsible so they get to own their lies. They were elected based on closing the border (not hard given we had the luxury of time and a large moat to see what was happening around the world). It wouldn't surprise me if they lost the next election based on their covid response or ended up with a coalition govt. Ardern is a great communicator and publicly appealing but the reality is we elect a govt... and so far I'm not happy with the choice others made. I have a vote and I'll use it.

I have high expectations of poiliticians. At worst, I expect them to get the facts correct. They're not even meeting my worst criteria. Maybe I should lower my standards. Conspiracy = 5G microchip in your vaccine because Bill Gates or someone else thinks you're important enough to track. I have no such delusion. But when I see my country getting it wrong time and time again, I get peeved off. I don't have my head in the sand. I did not buy into the theories/reports NZ was number one. Pretty obvious Asia have far more experience with SARS/MERS and are far better prepared but have the challenge of population density. I can't think of a single country's vaccine rollout I admire that ever relied on one vaccine like NZ is doing. The whole "Pfizer is the better vaccine" is spin sold to the public for their single vaccine strategy which of course, was wrong. Hence we're in lockdown again. I'm fully vaccinated and know how to take precautions as I've been following Covid since that clip aired of China building a hospital in 2 weeks. While everyone else said "it's the flu" I thought "the world has seen the flu and we have a vaccine (not amazing) and it has never caused any country to build a hospital in 2 weeks. That is no flu!" But so many gave stats on the flu.

NZ is not perfect at this and nor do I expect them to be. But I expect them to learn from others and provide as much info as they can. I expect the govt to say they got it wrong when they got it wrong. I would have so much more respect for the truth than I have the capability to forgive the govt for lying. I am all for improvements. For transparency. We're getting saliva testing twice a week? Why not daily? Why are they only just starting to label syringes at Highbrook vaccine clinic? Pfizer requires a dilution. How can they not label what they're doing?? Why are they making basic mistakes? Is there no one walking through the mass vaccine clinics to check every point to ensure nothing goes wrong? And where was the Ministry of Health? Notifying people 6 weeks later is a bit of a disaster really. Even if they weren't sure, they should have a) had those conversations about what happened and what potentially went wrong and how best to deal with that and get that out to potentially affected people so much earlier than 6 weeks. If I was on the receiving side of that I'd think 1 week I'd live with and not be upset but by 6 weeks I've likely had my 2nd dose but the question is do I need to book in for a third dose and when? The delay in notification is appalling. Leaves little room for forgiveness. Whilst we are all human and capable of making mistakes, I am human and I am less forgiving of a delay in the truth.

I criticise the response because I want better for my family and friends. I want them protected. At the same time I want freedoms. That is a fine line to walk and I expect govt to walk that fine line to the best of their ability to do the least damage to people in this country.

Take it to the politics thread.  I'm not interested in reading your political rant here - nor probably there either.

I've changed my mind. He lied. Just listened to some excerpts from interviews he gave. He was emphatic that Pfizer would deliver the vaccine by the end of September.  What's actually worse is he also said they were in discussions to delay the delivery till October due to freezer space.

He knew exactly what the dates were.

The delayed delivery raises another question. When the vaccine was ordered they would have known the freezer capacity. The orders would have or should have been made accordingly. So was the roll out botched and they were ending up with more vaccine in the freezers than was expected or did someone not do their sums correctly?

Oh dear.

A number of HelloFresh distribution staff are in isolation after two Auckland employees have tested positive for Covid-19.

In an email to customers, Founder and chief executive Tom Rutledge confirmed two staff members who shared the same shift have tested positive and it is unknown whether the cases are linked.

The want for magnifying glasses to go on business operations just got stronger.
