Personally I lean towards the incompetency option. I don't buy the misstep of an aide making a mistake. There would have been multiple discussions around the delivery schedule which as the minister he would have been part of. He should have know the correct date. If he didn't.....?

As much as I don't want this to be a conspiracy, the fact we seemingly have confusion over a date still doesn't explain other things.

For months there has been talk around our freezer capacity and only being able to store 4m doses meaning we would need to push back our final orders through to October as we had insufficient capacity to store the whole order if it was received in September. We've even talked about it in this thread.

What if this is what we have done, and now we're now frantically trying to get those doses we might have pushed back here earlier?

Apparently the the storage of the vaccine isn't as critical as first thought and therefore freezer capacity isn't as restrictive.

You're getting obsessed with "proving" something that's been acknowledged. Get a life - it's in the NZ Herald.  Lockdown must be incredibly boring for you if that's how you're whiling away the hours.

Nah, didn't waste much time all.  Got sent a link to a radio item from earlier today. All the info was in that short clip.

Technofreak:  What's actually worse is he also said they were in discussions to delay the delivery till October due to freezer space.

Regarding vaccine timing.

Revealed: The Government running out of vaccines because they asked for vaccine shipment to be delayed

https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/on-air/heather-du-plessis-allan-drive/audio/des-gorman-responds-to-revelations-the-government-running-out-of-vaccines-because-it-delayed-its-vaccine-shipment/

I was reluctant to post a newstalkZB link here, but the piece is well worth a listen. Ignore the host, and just listen to the Clips of Ministers and interview of the academic...

NZ Herald take on the same:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-vaccination-rollout-may-need-to-slow-to-planned-levels-after-lockdown-surge/YP5DYCWQXTEXCA5UQ2J66IGMF4/

However back in June, Hipkins told du Plessis-Allan again that all of the Pfizer stocks had been due to arrive by the end of September, but the Government had asked Pfizer to delay some of those shipments so they were staggered over October and November as well.

Bear in mind that ZB and The Herald are both NZME properties so their reckons will likely be aligned.

All the comments around "Demand", seem like spin to me...

The entire roll out so far has been capacity constrained. And throttled via appointment availability, site capacity, and eligibility via the groups, and then ages within group four. We haven't even opened up bookings to under 30's yet....

My take is that the DHB's and primary care industry have now sunk their teeth into the roll out (encouraged by the outbreak), and are hitting it out of the park in terms of volumes...

Other than a few examples (Use of Auckland airport park and ride, drive through in the main street somewhere), I don't think there is any reason we couldn't have hit this vaccination rate even without the outbreak.

It's unlikely it would have ramped up as fast without the outbreak. Vaccination here wasn't supply constrained here until the Alpha variant went bananas after Christmas and started knocking over a lot of people. After that it became far more apparent that more people were at risk and vaccination became heavily supply constrained.

Without the outbreak we would have for sure hit the point where we move from capacity driven to demand driven. I suspect we still would be yet to hit that point. 12 - 30 year olds is a big age band that we could have opened up eairly if there were lots of slots going unfilled.

I do think the outbreak caused some serious supply / capacity side boost. A lot of pharmacies, GP's etc had just come on line, and have relatively little work to during lockdown. Logical that they pivot aggressively to vaccination (assume they get paid per dose). And standing up some planned vaccination centers (like the drive through Auckland airport park and ride one) was expedited in response.

He's certainly lied previously as has Ardern.

Take it to the politics thread.  I'm not interested in reading your political rant here - nor probably there either.

Being selective in what you read creates your own bias. To get a good feel for a topic I prefer to read both sides of the argument as we all know in conflict there are 2 sides to a story. And whether you like it or not, decisions regarding lockdowns, easing restrictions are made by politicians, generally advised by the health advice. Ultimately the decisions are made by politicians though as even Bloomfield is not capable of taking into account the economic damage. While I'm pro health, I'm not blind to the suffering incurred by those in lockdown especially those already vaccinated. I don't envy those that need to make decisions but they put themselves forward for those jobs. I want NZ to keep improving and we have much to do in that area. Being smart is about being proactive rather than reactive. I wish we had at least 2 vaccines. I wish we had more pharmacies on line for delivering the vaccine. I wish they didn't talk about Pfizer being the 'better vaccine' as you have to eat your words if evidence arrives saying it may not be the best, or you have to buy another vaccine and people erroneously think they're getting the lesser vaccine. Plus I want to know what the plan is for the future after they've offered everyone the vaccine and only 90 or 80 or 70 or 60% have been vaccinated. Then what? The rest of us that got vaccinated still have to go into lockdown if there's a delta outbreak or some other variant? If they have no target then we can open yes? I don't believe that's their answer for a second. If they don't have a target I guess they can make up whatever rules suits them. Hardly great for planning, which they could have done more of.

Basically they will run out if they continue to do the 90,000 a day rate. I am not sure why they are so touchy about saying this . So they have to therefore throttle the supply back. The thing is that if one uses the booking form, then you have to wait weeks, even over a month to get it.
