flood disrupts level 4 https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300395153/covid19-live-evacuation-advice-overides-level-4-stay-at-home-requirements
Unreal. Last day of Winter, and now this for them
Media: And that 350,000, is there any sense in which you might manage to bump that up
a bit over the next few weeks?
PM: Well, of course, our goal is to be able to move beyond what we had planned by—
Media: No, no, sorry, the amount that’s coming in each week.
PM: Ah. Well, that is—obviously, as I’ve said, over 300,000 has been the weekly
deliveries that we’ve been receiving from Pfizer, and what we’re working on at the moment
is whether or not we can move beyond that.

Being selective in what you read creates your own bias. To get a good feel for a topic I prefer to read both sides of the argument as we all know in conflict there are 2 sides to a story. And whether you like it or not, decisions regarding lockdowns, easing restrictions are made by politicians, generally advised by the health advice. Ultimately the decisions are made by politicians though as even Bloomfield is not capable of taking into account the economic damage. While I'm pro health, I'm not blind to the suffering incurred by those in lockdown especially those already vaccinated. I don't envy those that need to make decisions but they put themselves forward for those jobs. I want NZ to keep improving and we have much to do in that area. Being smart is about being proactive rather than reactive. I wish we had at least 2 vaccines. I wish we had more pharmacies on line for delivering the vaccine. I wish they didn't talk about Pfizer being the 'better vaccine' as you have to eat your words if evidence arrives saying it may not be the best, or you have to buy another vaccine and people erroneously think they're getting the lesser vaccine. Plus I want to know what the plan is for the future after they've offered everyone the vaccine and only 90 or 80 or 70 or 60% have been vaccinated. Then what? The rest of us that got vaccinated still have to go into lockdown if there's a delta outbreak or some other variant? If they have no target then we can open yes? I don't believe that's their answer for a second. If they don't have a target I guess they can make up whatever rules suits them. Hardly great for planning, which they could have done more of.
That's a wall of text full of false equivalence, straw men, and unrealistic expectations.
Mōrena team, I'm just in the middle of organising the schedule for a few non for profits I am part of - any guess at all for our long we will be in Level 2?
That is, assuming we go to Level 2 on Wednesday September 8th.

I would think at least until auckland is out of level 4, possibly until they are also at level 2

All the comments around "Demand", seem like spin to me...
The entire roll out so far has been capacity constrained. And throttled via appointment availability, site capacity, and eligibility via the groups, and then ages within group four. We haven't even opened up bookings to under 30's yet....
My take is that the DHB's and primary care industry have now sunk their teeth into the roll out (encouraged by the outbreak), and are hitting it out of the park in terms of volumes...
Basically they will run out if they continue to do the 90,000 a day rate. I am not sure why they are so touchy about saying this . So they have to therefore throttle the supply back. The thing is that if one uses the booking form, then you have to wait weeks, even over a month to get it.
Imagine the headlines, here and overseas, if they ran out? It's all about managing the image, rather than going for it and if we run out we run out, at least we were getting the maximum possible number of people vaccinated.

"Kiwis flock to vaccination"
"High demand for vaccination"
"You won't believe how many kiwis got vaccinated"
"This lady booked her vaccination and you won't believe what happened next"
"I went for a vaccination and then this happened"

But when I see my country getting it wrong time and time again, I get peeved off. I don't have my head in the sand.
I read the whole post but this sentence makes me think that some people imagine New Zealand to be a wasteland of covid death like Florida is now or the UK at the start of the pandemic.
New Zealand had practically a year without the same restrictions as these other countries. We didn't have the number of deaths these other places had and so far we had managed to go through it in relatively good shape.
But then I read things like this and I can only imagine the political motivations behind creating such a scare with words like "wrong time and time again" as if we we have had hundreds of thousands of deaths.
@chatterbox: I criticise the response because I want better for my family and friends. I want them protected. At the same time I want freedoms. That is a fine line to walk and I expect govt to walk that fine line to the best of their ability to do the least damage to people in this country.
And there it is. "Freedoms". We have freedoms. Please let us know where your freedoms have been restricted.

Maybe if they are able to secure more supplies they should go to Auckland since it is worst affected*.The boundaries are set by the alert levels so there won’t be any vaccination migration.
My vested interest in this is to get out of lockdown and return to some semblance of normality. My family and I have been fully vaccinated for months.
* Note: I did suggest vaccine priority for Auckland pages back. It has also been picked up in an opinion piece in today’s NZ Herald.

I'm sure the aspiration is for 100% of Kiwis to be vaccinated, but (a) vaccines aren't approved for under 12s, and (b) there's a bunch of irrational freedumb warriors. Clearly the outbreak of Delta has caused a surge in demand that wasn't expected, because people would have been happy with getting a vaccination in October, or later, or not at all. What would be the impact on vaccinations of an even worse variant than Delta emerging? So what target and plan would you announce?
When you're working in an area with large unknowns, targets and plans are likely to be wildly inaccurate. It's not worth putting a huge effort into a detailed plan that you then throw away because it's unworkable. You have to be flexible. The demand for targets and plans is great for political game playing, but not necessarily for management of the problem.

We've had independent reports outlining issues and we have failed to act on them. True, we haven't had thousands of deaths, but that's setting a pretty low bar. And for many, lockdowns aren't all baking and dress-ups - we shouldn't trivialise their experience by saying "chin up, it could be worse!" and assuming their only motivation for being upset at being here again is political.

Issues are one thing and no one likes them. They have to be fixed. But "wrong time and time again" and the tone of the entire post is a different level of politicisation.

I don't think vaccination alone is going to be the answer to getting out of lockdown and back to (as close to) normal ASAP. Elimination is the best short term strategy.
If you could vaccinate everybody in Auckland today, it's going to be ~2 months before there's "peak" immunity (reducing risk of severe disease), but that still won't eliminate transmission. If vaccinating everyone in Auckland meant lower rates of vaccination elsewhere, then the 3.5 million people who don't live in Auckland would be at increased risk.
I think the concept of "ring-fencing" covid outbreaks by vaccination is history - it might have worked with earlier strains, but not with delta.
We may be wasting ourtime anyway..
Once again, couple of nations without a hold. Everyone else is effected.
