Fred99: 1431 new cases in NSW, 12 deaths.
There are currently 979 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 160 people in intensive care, 63 of whom require ventilation.

They expect the numbers to peak in the next two weeks. Makes you wonder what the peak might be?

Its a News corp story, so likely to be favourable towards the NSW/Federal Govts.... but still.....

According to modelling prepared by Melbourne University’s Chris Billington, the outbreak is on track to hit a peak around September 22.

“We can expect the cases to peak at between 2200 and 4500 cases per day,” he told news.com.au.

They also guessed that peak hospitalisation will be in October.

I don't in any way follow Australian politics, particularly State, but guess next election Gladys will not be in the frame?

Divided feels. Among not doing enough, doing too much, and OMG is she the queen or something, you can't say that

This mornings radio call: "But I don’t want people who have chosen not to get vaccinated to whinge that they can’t do certain things."

Speaking of Vaccines, the PM's "next day or two" to update us on getting additional supplies is now 5 days and counting...

+ During the Week Australia have done swap deals for 4.5 million pfizer doses, ( 500K from Singapore and 4m from the UK)

If the rollout has to scale back there will understandably be some blow back....

I didn't hold out a lot of hope for a quick return as we are effectively in a bidding war/swapping race with Australia, and Scott Morrison's focus and political capital is entirely on getting vaccines, as well as their outbreak being much larger than ours. Hopefully there'll be some space for us now, as the Polish, Singapore and UK swaps should sort Aus out for several months.

I really don't like what is going on in Oz. It all seems very political.

To think that we had a travel bubble with then.

At a CFR of about 0.3%, that's between 6 and 13 deaths per day, a couple of weeks later.

Of course it's political. It's very political everywhere, including New Zealand.

The length of the lockdown will have more impact on her popularity than covid numbers.

Nine weeks completed. Starting their 10th. She's starting to make Dan Andrews look pretty good.

Only ~150 days to go to catch up after Victoria finishes.

They'll reach the vaccination targets well before then. The whole thing is just scary.

I suppose the point was that in New Zealand all the political parties publicly agree on the same basic covid strategy. In the US the two parties/their supporters obviously have wildly differing views on how to handle the pandemic, and while the differences are much less in Australia, there is definitely a Liberal Party "try and stay open for business" vs a Labor party "lock down quickly" divide.
