not a thing you want if trying to get people to use QR scanning.

Dang. I must stop scanning as I rob a bank! Been wearing a mask for years :-)

Batman:

TeaLeaf: Ive read testing in under way on cannabis showing promise against covid.

so is bleach and hot water, and a long list of substances, that didn't go anywhere useful.

would be funny though if all the antivaxxers got stoned

Hardly the same mate

CBD is non psychoactive, but would be comical if a euphoria was a solid asset/tool in the fight.

That posting by Lush on the pub in Invers, "Ms Jacinda Hitler" and Dr Bloomfield as "Dr Ashley Goebbles" etc, a bit nasty. Vax is not a mandatory law. I not sure why they so upset about having to post a trace app scan code on their door.

Is there any stats on uptake of vax per province?

Does anyone else find it annoying that its near impossible to hear the questions from the reporters?

More the feeling that the questions don't seem to surprise anyone and that no delay for thought is required to answer them.

I've never watched one of those press things before but my wife had it on in the same room so I overheard it.

Yes - by DHB against targets:

Wasn't as "interesting" as I expected today, I thought they'd be given more grief about the Middlemore fiasco.  AB was however a bit flummoxed - particularly WRT how the hell the patient was in a ward with other patients while waiting for a PCR test result.  And so he should be - that was totally unacceptable.

There were a couple of delays as the answers were passed between AB and JA.

JA is as sharp as a pin.  Like her (policies WRT C-19) or not, that undeniable fact (to any objective observer) must be extremely frustrating for her haters. It makes them look incredibly dumb.

A related tragedy is that alcohol - the government sanctioned drug of choice for the masses - is implicated as causative for almost every single co-morbidity that indicates poor outcome when infected with C-19.

Wonder if this means family can return from Chch where they have been stuck before L4 hit Auckland? They haven't been able to make it back yet so have hunkered down through L4 down there.

Nope. They'll have to stay where they are..

According to the covid19 website ( note this is at 4th Sept) you can

https://covid19.govt.nz/travel/permitted-travel-at-different-alert-levels/personal-travel-permissions-over-an-alert-level-4-and-3-boundary/#permitted-travel-across-alert-level-boundaries

Going home — from Alert Levels 1, 2 and 3 to Alert Level 4 only
To go to your principal home or place of residence. You can only travel home if you are travelling from Alert Levels 1, 2 and 3 area to an Alert Level 4 area. You cannot travel the other way.

Evidence required
You must carry evidence of the purpose of your travel and the destination. This could include:

Proof of residential address, which has both your name and address on the document, for example a utility bill or bank statement.
Drivers must have their driver’s licence, and everyone should have a photo ID unless it is not reasonably practicable, for example minors.

Edits are finally coming through

And to answer earlier

Indoor sports facilities such as gyms, swimming pools, dance studios and health clubs can open, but with extra safety measures.

Team sports events can continue, but are limited to 50 people at indoor venues and 100 people at outdoor venues.

Professional leagues can go ahead at Alert Level 2 because they take place in controlled workplaces.

So same as last time. Rugby happened. But you needed to split everyone up into clumps of ~200. Now it's less.

At Alert Level 2, team sports events can continue. These are limited to 50 people in indoors venues and 100 people at outdoor venues. The 100 person limit includes players and spectators. Referees, officials and other workers providing services to a sports game are not included in the 100 people.

If a sports ground has more than 1 field, you can play multiple games at the same time, as long as each group is separated. Groups should try not to mix with each other, or share common facilities such as changing rooms at the same time.

If you are organising a sports event, make sure everyone records their visit. If you are watching the event, stand 2 metres away from others.

Update from the Hendy incident https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/that-wasnt-good-tvnz-cameraman-knocked-over-during-live-cross/ZIXMCTOPHO2HMMJOZXLV74SNJM/

Not having been a fan of the zombie apocalypse movie genre thus not having a deep understanding of the science behind zombieism, next time Shaun Hendy is interviewed on TV, are there any signs we should be looking for?  Did he get bitten?  Is that how it works?  Is this normal Auckland?  Should we make L4 permanent?

TeaLeaf: More logic starting to flow from the Govt. Good question though re certain places. I still think mandatory mask wearing in public, (not just food, med and transport ie footpaths) during lockdowns should be made law too.

I agree.

Where did you get food , med and transport? The Alert Level 2 page says

We encourage you to wear a face covering when you cannot maintain physical distance from others — for example, in crowded indoor places.

You legally must wear a face covering when:

  • on public transport
  • on flights.

So, its up to Joe and Joanne Public to decide what is a crowded indoor place?

It's quite strange. We've had compulsory masks everywhere for the last 18ish months. It's really not that big an imposition to wear a mask inside.

If my 7 year old daughter could wear a mask at school every day for the last 12 months I don't see the big deal about making indoor masking compulsory everywhere.

Meanwhile a large percentage of local community here, has for the last couple of hours been screaming 'why should we, there is none in the south island. Be level 1 already and get on with it' and asking why people are supporting that there is still a requirement.

Kiwis. Suck.

It's not exclusive to kiwis. The pandemic has gone on for over a year and a half and people are tired and impatient. Unfortunately it will get worse, as it has in other places.
