Some more wording changes. Most people will go 'who cares'. But I find the changes to wording interesting as they plug holes and so on :)

Alert level 2 and other pages From:

Wear a face covering

We encourage you to wear a face covering when you cannot maintain physical distance from others.

You legally must wear a face covering if you are aged 12 or over when:

To:

Wear a face covering

We encourage you to wear a face covering when you cannot maintain physical distance from others. If you are around people you do not know, it is a good idea to wear a mask. Face coverings stop droplets spreading when someone speaks, laughs, coughs or sneezes. They are a way we can protect outselves and each other.

In some situations, you legally must wear a face covering if you are aged 12 or over. For example on public transport, inside retail businesses and public venues.

Doing Business under lvl2 has some additions to clear up (most I've dealt with have basically chosen to go this way anyway..) and travelling suggests flexible times to outside peak

To help achieve physical distancing, customers are not permitted to stand on public transport. Talk with employees about changing their work hours or if they can work flexibly, if possible.

Advice for workplaces that are not open to the public

If your workplace is not open to the public — for example, an office or a factory floor, workers only need to keep 1 metre apart. There is no limit on the number of people that can be on the workplace premises, as long as everyone can safely physically distance. Your employees do not need to wear a face covering, but we encourage everyone to wear one.

If you have visitors to your workplace, you need to make sure they keep a 2 metre distance from others — for example, reception staff.

Coverings in the same section has been broadened a little..

  • in a customer-facing role in a hospitality business, for example cafes or restaurants
  • in a customer facing role... (at a retail store)
  • Venue vs facility

Similar on level 4 guides, and adjustments for limited public transport (no standing on busses)

Some interesting amendments to lvl3 for general public. Cutting out the text that seemed to OK 2-family mingling when you dug deeper and clearing up what keeping your bubble small means.

At Alert Level 3, you legally must stay within your household bubble whenever you are not at work or school.

Your household bubble is the group of people you have day-to-day, physical contact with. At Alert Level 3, it includes the people you live with and, if necessary, close family, isolated people or caregivers. You must keep your bubble as small as possible.

You cannot invite friends, whānau and extended family who are not in your bubble to your home.

And spelling out why masking is recommended. As with other pages

Sporting under level 2 changes..

You do not need to wear a face covering when participating in team sports. Has been added

That isn't an announcement.

Batman:

there is a lot of pressure to at least go to level 3.

In Auckland??? How can that be. The SI has had no known cases for 312 days, but still L4 for 2 weeks and L3 for one week, how can AKL go to L3?

FTFY. Lots of people travelled from Auckland to the SI in the 2 weeks prior to the latest lockdown. OTOH, I don't understand the relevance of the SI's lockdown timings to Auckland.

There are also at least two people who have travelled from Auckland to the SI since the SI has dropped down levels.

Yes they did, a decent number of them, and elsewhere in NZ. Lockdown catered for that, which was 2 weeks L4 and 1 week L3.

As to the SI relevance, I would assume our elimination strategy was nationwide, so on that, if AKL gets no cases at all, every day, for 14 days they would go to L3 for another 7 days

Thats not many based on their population, but OTOH if trials show it is effective, then a paltry 5 million for us should be no issue being supplied

Huh?

Not clear why you say that.

If intended as a single booster shot (which is almost certainly is), then it is more than enough to cover 100% of their age 0-100+ population of ~126m (& falling)

Just as 5.36m are enough for NZ's 5.12m population (plus Realm countries)

Batman: Rethink of reopening plans

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/covid-19-delta-outbreak-chris-hipkins-says-outbreak-could-push-back-phased-reopening-to-world/ENOACS3WZQWCIAEIUXOQ3RIDRE/

Basically nothing has changed in the past 4 weeks since the Govt announcement. We knew how dangerous Delta was then, and we know how dangerous it is now.

Why would we need to change our plans? Unless we're accepting those plans were highly flawed in the first place..

OTOH "Japan will receive 150 million doses of U.S. pharmaceutical giant Novavax" could be read to imply that they're importing the doses, when they'll actually be making it in Japan (Takeda).

So it looks like this is not the same original vaccine that seemed not very good against Beta (in South Africa) - but modified to include other spike proteins.

If it works, can be scaled in manufacturing much more easily than mRNA vaccines, and can be stored at normal fridge temps, then sure.

OTOH, Pfizer are also working on a modified vaccine to target Delta as a booster, and those trials will show efficacy following the 2 x Pfizer doses that will have been rolled out exclusively in NZ and a few other countries.  That seems a more certain bet.

Oh please...  Something new is learned every day.

It's a moving target.  Not changing plans would be dumb.

I'm just surprised that there is no plan at Hospitals for Triage in an active outbreak, I expect there are lessons form UK etc.
Why not test everyone that comes into emergency as they arrive to be sure , not very many hours later ?
Give them a quality mask with strict instructions to wear it properly.
Have a separate area for them unless there is an emergency procedure, mostly people are waiting for 6-7-8 hours.
No space, ask for Military for their emergency mobile hospital to put in a carpark ? Get some heated tents elsewhere ?
I'm sure there are possibilities.
I'm surprised its a surprise to those running Hospitals.

I think the biggest risk is the time everyone but life-threatening cases spends in the ER waiting room. Hours of waiting in a common waiting room are pretty normal. But I assume mask wearing there is mandatory.

Given all the people coming and going, people in the "untested" waiting room are going to be mixing with other untested people *after* they've had their test. Ideally, a test on arrival would be followed by segregation until the test results come back. People who come back clear could then go into the main waiting room. So you would need multiple segregation rooms, with no air transfer from one to another. A huge logistical problem that a large tent really wouldn't fix.

I expect that this is why the government is suddenly very keen on rapid antigen testing.
