On Denmark removing internal restrictions.
Denmarks vaccination level is at 73.31 fully vaccinated and 76.08 at least one ( Not just eligible )
Israel is 62.7% fully vaccinated 68.44 at least one.

Measles for example most countries are over 90% vaccinated for example, NZ 92% , and Aust 95%

Denmark has a lot of advantages.
They have an excellent healthcare system and lowest mortality rate of anywhere in EU, pre pandemic.
Including free home care for elderly. Higher education is free also adult education too.
So well educated and hopefully sensible populace ?
Oh and one of the highest tax rates in the EU, though people seem generally fine and feel they get value out of it.

So will be interesting the see how they do, and lots of lessons while we grind on with our vaccinations.

Just watch the % of eligible measures, good for measuring vaccination progress, but not for measuring viral protection.
Virus pretty much does not care if you are elidable or not, and as young are often in groups, schools, playcenteres, sports, playgrounds...

I don't think that's viable. Delta will get in again, the present outbreak (it looks like we've nailed) was a very close thing, so efforts should be on minimising risk from when it does get here "uncontained", and in my opinion that's going to be long before 2023.

IMO there's also going to be a change in perception of risk by the fully vaccinated - which is going to create even more resistance to containment by lockdown. This just my perception, I feel a bit the same way myself and I'll be less enthusiastic about lockdowns in future. Compliance will drop, lockdowns will fail.

IMO it all comes down to hospital capacity. At the moment we can't live with it in the community, even if we had very high vaccination rates.

More than a quarter of a million additional doses of the Pfizer vaccine are on their way from Spain to New Zealand, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced today.

The additional doses will arrive in Auckland on Friday morning to help meet the current surge in demand for vaccination.

“It’s been heartening to see so many New Zealanders getting vaccinated recently and the additional doses that we have purchased from Spain will help us provide additional capacity and walk-in sites through September,” Jacinda Ardern said.

“We’re vaccinating well ahead of plan and these additional vaccines will ensure we can continue to ramp up our vaccination programme.

“The Spanish shipment is in addition to New Zealand’s regular weekly delivery from Pfizer which is also expected this weekend.

“We expect to receive a total of 1.8 million doses from Pfizer throughout the month of September, in addition to the doses purchased from Spain. This means we don’t have any plans to slow down the rollout.

“This is the result of excellent collaboration between officials from New Zealand, Spain, the European Commission and Pfizer to secure this agreement. I wish to say thank you to those involved especially President Pedro Sánchez of Spain.

“We are deeply grateful to Spain for their cooperation and agreement to sell these doses to New Zealand. This reaffirms the strong links between our countries and is in the spirit of the global values shared by New Zealand and Spain.

“We also wish to extend our appreciation to the European Commission, for coordinating this purchase and to Belgium for their important role in producing the vaccines that New Zealand is the recipient of.

“We expect to make a further announcement about an agreement to buy additional Pfizer vaccines from a second country next week,” Jacinda Ardern said.

Also the line from politicians has been that getting vaccinated is the way out of lockdowns,

it would exceptionally politically risky to then turn around and say "Oh sorry the rules have changed, and we are still having lockdowns"

The next fight the government really needs to get in front of before it begins is vaccination status....

It is not unlawful for a store owner to say that you cannot enter without showing proof of vaccination,

and once digital proof of vaccination turn up , it will not take much for big events like R+V etc and bars to start pushing this line....

If the govt is fine with this , it needs to ( like the UK and OZ) say that those with vaccination will have more freedom than those without

We will need to get used to personal lockdowns. We can choose to lay low if need be, the wee ones, and older ones who might feel better than chancing the virus even if fully vaccinated? If there was no normal lockdown then easy enough to support those that need it?

You can see in the messaging by the PM & others that they know they are pushing their luck this lockdown, the sugary "be kind" messages are coming through thick and fast. I think there will have to become a time where covid is treated just as any other disease / virus and is just part of normal life. You get a jab (how often still seems open to scrutiny) and you may or may not get sick in any given period. If you are vaccinated, it is expected that the symptoms and transmissibility are much reduced but not eliminated.

Resistance to the lockdowns? Not entirely sure that is much of an option. There have been a handful of protests this time round and they were swiftly dealt with by the police and social media shaming / bullying swiftly deals with many others that don't come to the police attention.

I disagree, for all those that are worried they can stay at home. Fully vaccinated should and will do as they please. Lockdowns cannot go on forever...
