You actually meant England. Last time I looked Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were still part of the UK

freitasm:

mattwnz: But how many people haven't been caught? A $4k fine or 6 months in jail are the punishments mentioned on the news.

And they should get the maximum penalty allowed. As an example.

The threat of penalties actually does very little as people neither expect or think they will be caught, plus they don't tend to think ahead towards potential consequence because of their expectations. The potential for naming and shaming in the media is more of a deterrent for people like this, but we know that's quite unlikely to happen.

afe66: Wanaka is a small place...someone dobbed them in..

Partner had a theory that it might be an influencer who was dumb enough to post about it and dob themselves in, effectively.

Unfortunately they can probably afford lawyers who can argue that the consequences of their actions might be harmful and they will likely end up with suppression + a discharge.

I hope they get named.

That'd be the only deterrent for a$$hats like this.

My guess would be that most of the people who are there are either locals and most of the holiday houses are owned by residents from other parts of the SI, many of them rely on Airbnb rental income and take a great interest (understatement - they're obsessed) in who owns what, and it'd be inevitable that if someone from Auckland appeared at their Wanaka holiday home, they'd be seen and locals would want to see them flogged to death in the town square.  The rumour mill in the conservative parts of small-town SI is nothing like the relative anonymity of larger cities.

And when these two idiots return to Wanaka - regardless of whether they get name suppression - almost everybody in Wanaka will know who they are and what they did.

Yeah.

Above is underway already

One of the man’s parents is a high-ranking public official.

He referred questions to his lawyer, Auckland barrister Rachael Reed QC, when contacted by Stuff on Monday.

Reed said her client had no comment to make in relation to the allegations.

She said she was preparing an application for suppression, which would include details of the man’s parent’s occupation.

Fully vaccinated in Singapore get more freedoms.
More Covid-19 patients can recover at home, shorter quarantine: New measures at a glance
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/more-covid-19-patients-can-recover-at-home-shorter-quarantine-what-you-need-to-know-about

""
A home recovery programme for fully vaccinated people will be expanded from Sept 15. It will be extended to people aged 50 or younger who have no significant underlying illnesses.
""
Since Tuesday (Sept 7), MOH has also reduced the isolation period for fully vaccinated Covid-19 cases.

They can be as early as seven days into their illness if they have undetectable or very low viral loads, showing that they are non-infectious.

Unvaccinated patients will continue to be discharged from 14 days into their illness.
""

Singapore has found that Vaccination is associated with faster decline in viral RNA load and a robust serological response.
https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.07.28.21261295v1

So this probably explains the shorter isolation period they have adopted.

if you lockdown a month and cases go up ... it's no longer about not changing levels, you could be looking at mutiny soon
