GV27:

Passengers aboard the Le Laperouse, a small cruise ship which docked in Wellington on Monday morning, confirmed the remainder of the trip around New Zealand had been cancelled.

All passengers had been told to get off the ship.

One passenger told Stuff no restrictions had been put on their movements in Wellington. There was no known sickness on board.

Some passengers who had disembarked were seen getting onto a sight seeing bus.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/120298962/coronavirus-cruise-ship-with-with-suspected-infection-misses-wellington

It has mas 184 passengers, looks like it was on a Auckland - Dunedin trip, , on 3 so the passengers are probably wanting to get back Auckland as soon as possible anyway to try to fly out...

Give it 72 hours or less & that area will be extremely empty of people.

Will that generation be known as 'Coronials'?

In 13 years, will they be known as 'Quaranteens'?

The latter.  "Generation Q" has a nice ring to it.  Anon would be a great first name.

I'm sure production will have dropped massively,  Not at toilet paper manufacturers for the time being.

With everyone stockpiling toilet paper does this mean that no one is going to need to buy toilet paper for six months? So sales of TP will go way down soon as a glut of TP hits the country after they ramped up production to meet the panic buying?

Depending on how long the quarantines last for, we could be defining this period as the Q Continuum.

MikeB4: Yep the capitalist system is such a raging success. A rumour can cause a ripple, a big rumour can cause a recession, a few badly run banks can cause a GFC and virus can cause a global melt down. Capitalism is as resilient as a raw egg on the egg of a low table.

Maybe the silver lining of all of these is the planet finds a new system but don't hold your breath. Too many greedy vested interest and our overwhelming ability to repeat the mistakes of the past over and over again.

40BC/400AD - When Rome Sneezed Europe caught a cold

500/1400 - Nothing - Well there was the BLACK DEATH caused by a bacterium

1400/1600 - When Italy Sneezed Europe caught a cold

1700/1800 - When France Sneezed the Europe caught a cold

1800/1900 - When England Sneezed the World got a little bit feverish and sometimes caught a cold

2000/2100 - When America Sneezed the World caught a cold

2100/now - When President Trump Sneezed the World ignored it

2100/now - When China Sneezes the World caught a new mutating virus

So WHO wants to sing; Ring-a-ring-a-rosies

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I guess at the end of the day, people can only wipe their backsides so much and a years worth of toilet paper bought at once is no extra capacity than a years worth of toilet paper bought over a year

Waiting for the first market results to filter through.

Nothing drastic will happen until US/EU markets open over night.

Well damn.  Futures trading on the NY indices opened down 4 - 5%.

Actually - might be worse than that - I think it's tripped the circuit breaker / trade suspended.

We'll see.  Hold on to your hat.

NZX -3.16% right now.  (Holding up okay - we didn't get the "Trump pump and bump" on Friday)

Think the big question which will be answered over the next couple of weeks is will we start to see internal community spread of the virus.

Specifically when people catch the virus from an unknown source. The thing with our 8 cases is that they all had symptoms that were serious

enough to warrant these individuals calling the health line.

There may be others out there who are asymptomatic/have very mild symptoms who are going about their lives spreading the virus round. The long incubation period of the virus

means these won't come to light for at least a week.

I agree with the PM's decision to enforce self isolation to all arrivals, I do fear though it was made about 3 weeks to late.

Guess as a country we should be crossing our fingers for the next 2 weeks.

ASX futures still look positive and that's after a huge swing from 8% down on Friday to end 4% up..

At the end of the day I usually don't need TP, it's closer to a beginning of the day thing.  That might change if I end up subsisting on the 10,000 cans of beans I've hoarded.

That is really going to mess with New Zealand's emission targets 😀

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
