Oblivian: Unscheduled 1pm presser.

That'll be another mother telling off, and to prepare for the poopshow rush of testing and jabbing demand that is bound to follow.

And we are doing very well...

Radio NZ - Air NZ to introduce 'no jab, no fly' policy for global flights

Air New Zealand is introducing a 'no jab, no fly' policy for international travellers, starting in February next year.

Why wait until February?  🙁

A lot of preventable Covid spread could occur in the next 4 months, even assuming that the number of international flights will be unusually low.

Exactly how much international travel do you think is going on right now?

Air New Zealand need time to implement systems as well as testing them before getting them up and running.

Its doable, see Taiwan with higher population density.
https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/4303796

Asian people are more compliant to following rules .  Look at the Brian Tamaki protest yesterday, the people playing touch rugby, the gangs doing what they want.

Government looks like a headless chook, on one hand saying they are on track for elimination, while on the other the situation looks increasingly out of control.

This is what I think they should do...

Implement a nationwide level 2.8 lockdown nationwide, no internal borders. Announce a level 1 date that allows enough time for 90% of people to be fully vaccinated (end of year??)

Introduce curve flattening tools, such as rapid testing, education, mandatory masks. Keep the infection curve 'flat'.

Then, open up on that date... vaccine sceptics can take their chances.

2.8 will blow it out. Its already flattish, well it did flatten to low teens average, now its on the rise. Rapid testing is good, but take the Waikato case today, infectious form 27 Sept, a rapid test just tells us this yesterday and not today?. We've had educational for 18 months, you even get it on YouTube ads. Masks we already have. I can't see that sending the virus nationwide will help much. With Level 2 and a closed border its not working due to compliance, Im not sure how 2.8 and open borders will flatten it

Was the bloke driving the truck asymptomatic or something? If so, how did he even know to get a test?

Goodbye doing much of anything this summer...sigh.

I believe it was just a routine weekly swab required for essential workers crossing borders

Haven't we been hitting the 'pause' for a few days and testing like crazy to get a more accurate picture of the current local situation. Review/update the situation several days later.

Bang on. I'd vote for that.

This case just screams out for compulsory jabs. What’s the excuse for this driver to not be vaccinated already? Can we enforce jabs for those that want these travel exceptions?

Well done to his household contacts for being vaccinated. Let’s hope they continue to test negative.
