I agree as I stated earlier. In fact the backpacking version probably sees NZ as a safe haven, so lets flock here. Where else can you see soem great things with no community transmission? They have to stop that today, and as some other countries have, we need to get on that bandwagon, as should every other country
That's a bit harsh.
I still have a backpacker's hostel in NZ and have just talked to the managers.
90% of them are taking this very seriously.
Two young girls who've recently arrived were happy to shell out extra $ for private rooms - instead of dorms, and extend their stay.
Also distanced themselves from other travellers, ate separately etc. No one would've known but they volunteered.
We also get van travellers who pay for 1 night just to use the showers etc. Again very clear about how long they've been in the country, maintaining social distancing - polite, and ask what the rules are - esp the Germans.
Many of these kids have had this planned for a long time. We haven't had any rush of bookings - in fact have had a lot of cancellations.
Most are worried about how long it will last, and what effect it will have on their travels as NZ's just part of their round-the world trip.
