Not sure why. Thera are 60 cases almost all Auckland, stay home and vaccinate. Im not sure what the 1pm would add.

There's some significant questions around the current strategy in light of the bigger numbers, the Northland case's wing-woman and the access to vaccinations in the Northland area (apparently four in the whole region open today).

I don't watch the 1pm conferences anymore but apparently there hasn't been one since Thursday.

Buster:

All they seem to want to do is point out the down sides to every possible option and scenario going forward and run a post-mortem (and blame) of where we have been.

They dont blame. They should do. There is point where niceness and encouragement and positivity has to turn to blame. This isnt a rugby match. If we want level 4 in NZ everywhere, lets continue doing what we are doing, even though most are, the rest of us are and will be penalised

Im prepared for a Summer of Level 3 or 4, I'm in a L2 area.

I think the trouble with your statement, and it's a common statement of all people who reside outside of Auckland, is you're putting your own wellbeing ahead of those 1.7m people who live in Auckland.

It's easy to say "Auckland should go into Level 4 for another X months " and "eliminate" covid, whilst the rest of New Zealand can continue to live life at Level 1/2 but that is not a realistic long term solution as it clearly hasn't worked so far. Aucklanders are tired of lockdowns, they're not robots, they need social contact and enjoyment, and [in theory] they haven't seen friends/family for months or travelled outside their suburb.

Covid is coming to New Zealand, and all we can do is slow the spread until we get the vaccination rate higher

And Judith Collins.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-judith-collins-calls-on-jacinda-ardern-to-front-clearly-questions-pm-does-not-want-to-be-asked/C47MHT564MFYNSPU5XNSK4JF4E/

Maybe the PM is just a little bit busy doing her job encouraging people to get vaxed. Collins sounds as desperately irrelevant as she is.

Changing the subject (and getting away from partisan politics):

The number of infected is definitely a concern - I wonder how many were “level 3” infections as opposed to infections under “level 3, step one”?

What’s folks thoughts on the direction of infections under level 3 step one?

Not sure where I said AKL should stay in level 4 for x months. That wont hale a great deal as I stated today due to non compliers. Your solution seems to be Level 2 for AKL? Less flouters who I feel need to shoulder blame would help that. Not sure how Level 2 in AKL will slow the spread till vaccination is higher though.

That pretty much all that anymore can say. Unless there is a way to stop non compliers, not much else to say.

3/4 of Saturdays cases were infectious in the community. Hard to know if Level 3 step one has caused any or much more, as non compliers will non comply anyway, and if we get more cases we see more tests = more cases.

Level 3 as I understand it adds more mobility and mixing above flouting level as many more businesses can operate.
So you have staff, cleaners, maintenance etc etc.
Flouters probably step up a level too, as they no longer stand out in traffic flow, but mostly a lot more people can work.
Have accidents and go to hospital, need to get car repaired to work and all the usual stuff.

So what's everybody's pick on the cabinet decision tomorrow?

While there are plenty of people who would love to see Auckland back at L4 but in light of the path we're now on still see a reasonable chance of the move to phase 2 this week or at least an announcement of a date for the move to that.

I doubt that cabinet will opt for level 4. I'm picking that they'll leave things as is, won't increment any 'steps', nor will give any timeframes. They *might* give a timeframe later in the week.

My pick is there will be a very long speech and at the end of it there is no change to anything, leave as is.

As an Aucklander I know what I would like to see, but suppose that we will remain locked down in Level 3 for another week.

Not that the last 8+ weeks seem to have achieved what was needed. So sick of lockdown, even given minor concessions.

Under any of these steps, do schools open up again? I know daycare centres are open again (with restrictions), or does everything like that wait until level 2...assuming we ever get there?

Yes, Schools reopen under the current Auckland level 3, step 1. Just it's holidays at the moment. Government is considering if there will be a vaccination mandate for teachers.
