And yet the UK NHS are rolling out boosters:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-booster-vaccine/

But not at this stage a general population rollout.

Don't get me wrong - IMO boosters should be available here.  I expect they will be, they've just (last week) been approved in Aus for vulnerable groups only.

Article in BMJ about NZ's covid response:

“Our approach has been the best by far. It bought us time to watch what was happening elsewhere and learn from the failures and successes of others.

“Sometimes delta doesn’t give you a choice. But most of New Zealand is still eliminating while vaccinating.”

(quoted text from Rod Jackson - professor of epidemiology at the University of Auckland)

University of Auckland got $4 million dollars from taxpayer in 1 year to model for our covid response. they'd better write that we are the best.

but apart from that, it does appear we are the best.

Waikato and Northland L3 to remain in L3? Oh wow, this isn't going to be popular.

Except amongst those who understand why - rather than seeing themselves as victims of "unfair" policy,  posting rants on social media etc.

So who in NZ would you have preferred to be funded for pandemic modelling?

I'm pretty sure it's possible to be annoyed that a lockdown is being extended without having to revert to full meltdowns.

There's no 'right way' and 'wrong way' for people to deal with being told they're going to be in lockdown for even longer through no fault of their own.

One quality that probably is uniquely human is self-sacrifice. It is also pretty damned noble, at least the way it is portrayed in films. The hero who jumps on the hand grenade, or charges a machine gun nest to save his buddies. Whatever.

Not all self-sacrifice is so dramatic. But it can be just as noble. Like long-suffering members of a community going uncomplainingly into extended lockdown because they know that protects others. What a gloriously unselfish thing to do!

Its possible to both understand why they are needed and yet still rant about the fact that they are happening, two things can be true. There is the perception that peoples livelihoods are at stake, their businesses face failure and the wider societal implications of that occurring. Is the perception likely to happen, who knows, are people just envisaging a worst case scenario, perhaps, but that is the reality of what they are dealing with.

Agreed, and I feel that the ability to express that while still being broadly in favour of the need for a lockdown is important.

People are very good at projecting their own lockdown experiences across the entire population despite the fact some people face financial ruin and extreme mental/social costs as a result.

Feeling bad about being rough-ended by a lockdown isn't an unpatriotic act, and we're either OK with people talking about the problems and struggles they have, or we aren't.

The fact it might pose an inconvenience to the 'we've got this, team of five million, everyone rolling up their sleeves for the greater good' that some people are clinging to is ultimately their problem.

87% of eligible Aucklanders have had first vaccination, 65% fully vaccinated.  At a guess there will be 90% vaccinated after "Super Saturday". The govt is dropping the ball by not having a clear strategy going forward

I'm thinking we're not getting any extra movement based on whether you're vaxxed or not until December, no matter how high Auckland's vax rates get.

Need to factor in that you're not at peak immunity until ~14 days after dose two.
