There's going to be some people that absolutely refuse to get vaccinated and some people that might need a small push or reward. I guess that the people that refuse are going to hold the DHB back from reaching their targets or maybe they might be able to push the last few through with a small incentive. Time to start door knocking and making those phone calls.
Just felt that, central Chch. Wasn't significant here.
We have 1 firm no at work, has gone deep down the internet rabbit hole of the anti-vaxxers. He is quite prepared to wait out the current "crisis" if that means no haircuts, no bars, restaurants etc.
I'm still not entirely sure I understand. All three DHBs have to hit double jabs in Auckland, at which point we go to a new alert system with less restrictions but we keep a hard border?
Did we get any clarity about how long we'd have a border around Auckland?
Eva888: So...the hard border of Auckland will remain (so sorry for you guys) and when it reaches 90% vaxxed, which by the numbers of resistant it may not, it can go to the traffic light system. What decides if the light then will be orange or green.
Earthquake! Is this an omen.
The hard border remains while Auckland is at Red, but my understanding is that once the rest of the country goes to Orange, Auckland will join them. The rest of the country doesn't move into the new framework until they've (all) reached 90% vaxxed. Auckland moves to the framework when the 3 DHBs reach 90%. Auckland will move to Red, to keep the border intact. Orange, there is no hard border.
It's actually a little bit of a reward for Auckland, moving to the framework before the rest of the country, meaning restaurants and events can happen (for the vaxxed). It will put a little pbit of pressure on these business having to check vaccine certs, but IMO it's a small price to pay (and in theory, of every 10 people, 9+ of them will be vaxxed anyway).

If Auckland is in red (hard border) till the rest of the country makes it to 90% fully vaccinated then I believe the hard border will be in place till the November 29th announcement.
There are 5 DHB's (BOP, Southern Lakes, Northland, Tairawhiti & Taranaki) that are still in the high 50% fully vaccinated. I personally see no way that every DHB makes it this year.
Sounds like the rules will probably change on the 29th anyway

What we are essentially going to have with the vaccine certificates is a kind of “Social Credit” system. So maybe we should just go full Chyna and mandate first vax for everyone by 1 Nov, second by 1 Dec, or you become a “non citizen”?
Once again a waffley “We’ll review it on 29 Nov“ rather than setting a date and challenging people to be vaxed by then or suffer the consequences. But I guess you can’t be accused of failing if the goal isn’t set in the first place.

So the unvaccinated have more freedoms under the current system than the proposed new system. This provides a disincentive for the unvaccinated to get the jab because once we reach 90% the new rules will apply.

They're not that bright.
good luck on the Lakes DHB reaching 90% anytime soon, in Rotorua we have large areas where the community hasn't even reached 40% for the second dose and the first dose isnt much better at around 50% in the same areas
Common sense is not as common as you think.

Agree, the rules will probably change on the 29th Nov when the government realise 90% fully vaxxed NZ wide is unachievable

As much as I want to see everyone who is eligible for the vaccine to be vaccinated, I see this announcement will create major rifts within our society. The anti vaxxers are going to become alienated and resentful. They are going to be on the outer right through out society, work and play. While we who are vaccinated will see this situation as self inflicted that is most definitely not how they see it. There are a whole range of reasons they justify their action from the selfish "Its my choice no tells me what to do" through to a genuine (but misplaced) fear of what the vaccine might do to them now or later in life.
With the decree that 90% need to be vaccinated before more freedoms of movement or activities resume, the government has effectively mandated vaccination. The anti vaxxers are going to come under extreme pressure from the rest of the community in order for everyone to regain their freedoms. The harder you push someone in situations like this the harder they will push back.

Just as an aside as I can't be bothered looking are any major countries using a vaccination certificate like we plan to?
