NZ experts have been warning the same sort of thing. Unfortunately they haven't been listened or broadcast as much during this outbreak by the media. When it is widespread, I do wonder how cases are going to be controlled, without much of NZ remaining in the 'red' for a long period on and off , or another set of restrictions being brought in. I just hope a better vaccine comes along that stops transmission.

Yeah, what can you do? One side wants lockdowns forever, another side wants us to open up at 80% vaxxes. We all know how that will go. AKL are hard done by so they want to be opened up I assume. This thread is 100% negative. If this virus was that easy, every other of the 190 countries including ourselves will have nailed it, GDP is through the roof, hardly a death. But apparently we should have foreseen all of this months and months ago, as should every other country. And the article that grinds my wheels is that SI have a case now they need to wake up, W.T.F.?

Its clearly becoming divisive. AUS and NZ are divisive. We smack them in rugby they smack us in cricket. Sheep shaggers etc, but when we had EQ's they were here when they had bushfires we were there. Doesnt seem the same in NZ , hence this thread is more about that than a unified Covid effort.

Yep, just what I posted. SIN is about our population. But here, we can't change rules to manage the changing situ. We could I guess be like our neighbours and open up while we have rising cases? Doesn't matter though as NZ seems to be a blame country.

it might be our population but they are all squeezed into an area nearly half the size of Auckland which makes a big difference on how easy covid spreads in that density of people.

Good point and very true. Does that also apply to NSW and VIC? Not arguing, just asking.

i think its the same for any high density country/city , i think it is why our numbers have never been high , it must be harder for covid to spread when there are less people per Sq/km to spread it

So how did old mate from Rotorua now in Blenhiem with Covid get infected by someone from Te Awamutu since there is a border between these places? Also was old mate vaccinated?

it's what i call the phenomenon of skip cases.

skip account, skip bail, skip customers, delta covid likes to skip cases.

you find cases that are linked by 2-3 degrees of separation without ever knowing how they are connected.

Rotorua would be the closet airport that he could fly from , no one has said if he had an exemption to leave Waikato to do it though . I will guess we will find out in the next few days.

There is no hard border around Waikato. The amount of traffic driving around and in and out of Hamilton during the week was just like any other day. Wouldn't even know they were under lock down.

Yeah, I was surprised. Had to go to Rotorua last week from Auckland and aside from normal checkpoint at Mercer no other checkpoints from their onwards.

Why are they allowing people to travel to the S.I. when the traffic light system is not ready to go????

Most people I’ve spoken with are not interested in lockdowns when every precaution is not being taken to keep the risk down of it coming to S.I.

I had contact with a few people who were in Blenheim couple days ago, here’s hoping it is not spreading.

What kind of teachers reject 99% of scientific consensus in favour of superstition and old wives' tales? Children are better off without them.

I feel like teachers are a bit like midwives with the 'long known issues that have been hiding in plain sight that no one has ever had any cause to actually fix' thing.

Teachers as a group can be a politically sensitive group to deal with, but the PPTA to their credit have been quite vocal about the supporting a mandate for vaccinating teachers which is great to see.
