MikeB4:

@tdgeek My daughter is a Doctor(MD)/Scientist(PhD)  working in medical research overseas. I Facetimed with last night,  She believes the experiment of living with Covid-19 is going to be a disaster. The Virus will mutate at a greater rate to a point where vaccines will struggle to keep up. The only real hope is effective treatments but just like treating the common cold and influenza these treatments are a very long time off and will not stop our medical infrastructure becoming overwhelmed globally.  She believes the "opening up and living with it" is not based on any sound science, it is driven by dollars. The only answer at this time is separation of those with it from those without it be they vaccinated or not.

Of course dollars are part of the decision process.

People have to earn a living to put a roof over their head and food on the table and be able to pay for the science and other things that enhance our way of life.

For the past 18 months our economy has been on an intravenous feed of money from the government. This money injection has insulated us all from the hard effects of Covid on our ability to earn a living. I'd be willing to bet there is no one on here who earns a living one way or another who hasn't benefitted from Covid support payments in one way or another, directly or indirectly.

To some extent we are living in a fools paradise. We cannot carry on indefinitely like this. We have to transition to living with the virus. We have to balance the now with the future. In doing so we need to provide the best protection we can afford for those vulnerable to Covid.

A good article on the timeline of the vaccine rollout, based on cabinet papers and OIA request

MileHighKiwi:  But my kids are very healthy and I'm not sure what benefit it has. The benefits of the vaccine increase with age.

My wife's friend in the North of Scotland has a 10 year old son who caught Covid 6 months ago. It wasn't life threatening at the time but ever since he has suffered from Covid Toe https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/126614274/covid19-heres-why-some-people-get-the-unusual-covid-toe-symptom

No it's not life threatening either but he has been in agony for months as it just refuses to clear. Painkillers help but his mum is trying to avoid overuse, It is affecting both son and Mums mental health considerably.

We used to laugh at stupid lemmings...

One gets a hint at what it must have been like living in the dark ages.  Pretty dark...

Mask certificates are given out by a disability NGO pretty much on request.
They have limited to no access to resources to check there is any clinical reason.

According to that Stuff article, they are charging money for this service, so as well as the Medical Council I'd be hoping the Police would be charging them with various Crimes Act offences, such as 'using a document for advantage', 'false representation', maybe even 'forgery'. And since there appear to be several of them, 'Conspiracy' too

they are so stupid they cant even see the irony in calling it freedom day. If they stayed at home and got vaccinated then they would get their so called freedom back even quicker.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

The other big question floating around is "have we peaked"??

Looking at the daily case chart it appears we are at an inflection point.....

Either we have come off the latest retraction and are going to push higher in the next few days,

Or

Given that today's 125 is less than one week ago 129,... we might be topping out.. (mystery cases certainly have stopped rising) .. but I don't know if this is a good lead indicator )

https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/27-10-2021/the-spinoff-covid-tracker/

The next 2-3 days will tell if this are about to get a whole lot worse, or stabilise and gradually improve...

Bugger!, clearly forming.a base for another push higher...
