i dont live in Auckland and since there is nothing i can do about what is happening in Auckland i dont think about it much , if it spreads to my city then i will worry , at the moment i can live a life that is pretty much normal and i will continue to do so knowing that could change very quickly.

With all due respect, "not thinking about something you can do nothing about" being expressed does not help Aucklanders like me.

What, after 11 weeks, really hurts is the arbitary deadline of 90% across all DHB's having to be reached to even get to "red zone" and out of L3 lockdown. I notice that Counties Manukau is slipping in vaccine rate and now is showing as not likely until December 4th. So we can see no sure relief in any forseeable timeframe, even after a soul crushing 16 weeks.

tell me what i could do that would help Auckland , maybe go into lockdown in support , not sleep at nights, im not sure , i feel sympathy for Auckland as we have all gone through level 4 and 3 lockdowns and know the feeling but again i have my life to get on with and that takes priority.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Yip. It's been more than 2 years now. It will be approximately 3 years before it's feasible to get home. It's wonderful having to explain to a nine year old on a weekly basis why we can't go home.

Yep. I’ve had friends and family out of Auckland (Hawkes Bay and Christchurch, in particular) with similar judgements. Some of them think that Aucklanders are being drama queens and that “we're taking being locked down too seriously” when it comes to talking about the matter. There were some lines of thinking that we brought it on ourselves with Brian T’s picnics.

Their attitudes changed quite quickly when there was a scare in Napier and confirmed Covid in Christchurch…

Read some of the comments on here directed to people overseas. It's far nastier than that.

Covid has revealed some very unpleasant sides to New Zealanders. It puts me off wanting to come back to live.

Agreed. It’s unacceptable, we are one people.

I have partially given thoughts about relocating out of New Zealand on similar grounds (plus the money and educational environment would be great too).

We are a multi-cultural society with folks from all walks of life. I'd like to think New Zealanders are fairly special, but they do lose their gloss when vitriol is hurled about against certain ethnic groups, people stuck overseas or folks that don't share the same political leanings.

Sometimes we need to show some grace. Something that is lost in much discourse overseas these days.

I think part of the problem this time around is the governments messaging, and now blaming people not doing the right things. eg Flouting the rules and not getting vaccinated. Last year the government told people to blame the virus. Some of the logic they are using also doesn't make sense and quite a few of the experts are pretty concerned and a lot of their advice hasn't been used. They are apparently still only looking at introducing vaccine requirements to cross the Auckland border, which is like closing the gate after the horse as already bolted. Likewise the large fines announced still haven't come in, so people breaking the rules have only been slapped with wet bus ticket fines.
IMO they should be fronting press conferences every day with new initiates for vaccination, and giving targets to try and speed things up. Hard hitting adverts, including on social media may also help. Not taking 3 day weekends from the press conferences while Auckland and Waikato peoples still enduring Level 3. The virus isn't taking weekends off. Why for example aren't we having Super Saturdays every week, with carrots to get people in like they did in the last Super Saturday. Many people seem to be simply holding off. This is proven by Chch where they had a big jump in vaccinations after the new cases.

People also seem to be under the impression that is some sort land of milk and honey where we have no problems and everyone should be thankful to be here.

It's not - we work long hours, our housing is unaffordable, many of us won't be able to retire mortgage-free even if we are lucky enough to buy a house and we're stuck with inflation and rapidly decreasing living standards.

I don't blame Kiwis who feel increasingly ignored and falling behind at home for not immediately thinking that overseas-based NZers are our highest priority.

I don’t see anything wrong with someone having the view of not wanting someone to come from overseas temporally from a country with a contagion, when we were contagion free, and not prepared. I.e low vaccination rates etc.

Even to go to a relatives funeral, as it is putting livelihoods of millions and their health at risk.

Someone coming back to NZ to live, as long as all precautions taken should be allowed if possible, my view.

If thinking prioritisation of millions of peoples livelihoods and health currently living in NZ is seen as unkind and mean so be it. Nothing to do with multicultural etc.

I think we are now at the stage of when is it every where in NZ, not if, so it’s a matter of managing that so we are best prepared, and then with conditions people are freer to come and go.

Thats a pity. I can't talk for all non Aucklanders, but it could have been a Welly or ChCh outbreak, it happened to be AKL. Me, in ChCh Im just waiting for it, I actually went out today to grab outdoor stuff given that if the two cases with unknown links may have spawned it so lockdown. Im ok with that. But its a pity if Aucklanders think that non Aucklanders are oblivious. Im sure many are "livin' the dream" but many of us are realistic. Not if, but when.

It was only yesterday someone bailed from Ellerslie and was caught in under health an hour.

Some people are that desperate to get home. In the most idiotic of ways.

Forcing people into MIQ is a very draconian step - and it's pretty clear lots of people are objecting to this. Anectodal evidence is suggesting people aren't getting tested because they don't want to go into MIQ.

I do just wonder when they were going to tell is about these two, because the obvious time would have been when they had to comment on the other escapee yesterday which was known about because media had footage of the foot chase down the road.
