Two escapees from Jet Park quarantine still to be found

Its not meant to be a prison, but seems some need it to be.
Never mind that these are positive cases that benefit for their own good from monitoring.
Just in case they go south.

They wouldn't have been there if they were vaccinated. Easy.

Thought it would be a good reference for businesses to avoid, a conversation point for this thread, maybe something others might want to see for themselves.

We are a multi-cultural society with folks from all walks of life. I'd like to think New Zealanders are fairly special, but they do lose their gloss when vitriol is hurled about against certain ethnic groups, people stuck overseas or folks that don't share the same political leanings.

Sometimes we need to show some grace. Something that is lost in much discourse overseas these days.

I recall back in the EQ days, the vitriol that was present. Sick of the news, every night, and so on. Over it. But those here in ChCh in the East probably didn't see much of that given their power and water and sewage and internet issues.  We weren't badly off, but both neighbours were freaked out, so I supported them. Its not a lot different to this issue. Im in L2, cool. I KNOW that it can be L3 or more at any time, nothing is taken for granted. But its not 100% correct for some to label non Aucklanders as ambivalent. It could have been anyones turn, AKL's number came up, could have gone any way, region-wise

Agreed. I hope my posts have not come across that way - I was referring to specific people who had made those comments.

I think part of the problem this time around is the governments messaging, and now blaming people not doing the right things. eg Flouting the rules and not getting vaccinated. Last year the government told people to blame the virus. Some of the logic they are using also doesn't make sense and quite a few of the experts are pretty concerned and a lot of their advice hasn't been used. They are apparently still only looking at introducing vaccine requirements to cross the Auckland border, which is like closing the gate after the horse as already bolted. Likewise the large fines announced still haven't come in, so people breaking the rules have only been slapped with wet bus ticket fines.
IMO they should be fronting press conferences every day with new initiates for vaccination, and giving targets to try and speed things up. Hard hitting adverts, including on social media may also help.  Not taking 3 day weekends from the press conferences while Auckland and Waikato  peoples still enduring Level 3. The virus isn't taking weekends off.  Why for example aren't we having Super Saturdays every week, with carrots to get people in like they did in the last Super Saturday. Many people seem to be  simply holding off. This is proven by Chch where they had a big jump in vaccinations after the new cases.

Your making excuses. That we need to comply with whatever alert level anyone is in, is no secret. Vaccines are not secret, you can get them everywhere. For those that take even a minor peek at the news its blatantly obvious what they need to do.

"This is proven by Chch where they had a big jump in vaccinations after the new cases. " Thats rubbish, sorry. Thats been the case since day one, human behaviour. Not specific to ChCh its always the case as regards scanning, masks, and now, vaccines. Unless you can legislate to overrule human behaviour you cannot fight that. We used to be compliant. so containing an outbreak. while that takes time, is not hard. If so many cant be bothered now due to Covid fatigue and misinformation, then here we are. Its not March 2020, its October 2021. Some of the team of 5 million took elimination away. Bugger. But that's ok, we need to vaccinate to fill that gap, as like everywhere else, when we are well vaccinated we can open up. But some of that team of 5 million aren't bothered, so we either maintain 90% figure, or we dont. Unless you can force human behaviour, no one else can do it.

Not really, given how many MIQ facilities are located are Auckland - it was always far more likely to be there than anywhere else.

Human behaviour. We probably rank pretty low compared to most species. You will find that escapees are not seasoned criminals, but they seem to have no regard for anyone else if they cant get a beer or a pizza or their own living room. Lets say MIQ was in lockdown, as in physical lockdown, out come the lawyers. Not their fault though, we happen to have Human Rights laws. PRNK has it so easy, but i'll stick here for a bit more   /s

Forcing people into MIQ is a very draconian step - and it's pretty clear lots of people are objecting to this. Anectodal evidence is suggesting people aren't getting tested because they don't want to go into MIQ.

I do just wonder when they were going to tell is about these two, because the obvious time would have been when they had to comment on the other escapee yesterday which was known about because media had footage of the foot chase down the road.

So that would also apply to Kiwis coming home??? Yes, Kiwis coming home is not the same as me catching Covid, but Covid IS the same. As you will know self isolation applies to locals who have suitable home situations, heard one on the news today "Dad is living in the garage area, we have no contact" And the trial of incoming travellers (business) is self isolating at home

So, are you suggesting we should not have had MIQ at all, and all incoming should self isolate at home?

No, not yours, but some others (who I do respect) that feel that they are hard done by. And they are.

It reminds me of the EQ's, AUS our big cousin who we love to hate, who thrashes us in cricket and netball, they came running, likewise, VIC fires, we came running. Just because non Aucklanders can't come running for this scenario, doesnt mean its a divided country

Yes, really. AKL has more MIQ, and fine, its a far bigger city and the biggest hub, but MIQ does exist elsewhere too. No idea of the per capita numbers, but if goes to that, then maybe this place is that divided.

I realise that one of my previous posts got called out as portraying NZ “as a land of milk and honey”.

Yes, we as a country have issues.

Yes, we have finite resources, particularly in regards to MIQ capacity.

Does that mean that we should throw abuse at New Zealanders that happen to be overseas and stuck in MIQ booking limbo? I’d like to think not. You are free to think otherwise.

Press release:

New Zealand has secured access to an important new COVID-19 drug that can save lives and cut time in hospital, Health Minister Andrew Little said today.

“Earlier this month, we were one of the first countries to buy molnupiravir, an anti-viral drug showing promising potential at stopping people with mild-to-medium symptoms of COVID-19 needing to go to hospital,” Andrew Little said.

“Today, I am very pleased that Pharmac has secured access to another important drug that could help treat people with medium-to-severe COVID-19, especially those with compromised immune systems.

“Ronapreve is a monoclonal antibody drug and there is a lot of excitement about it. The clinical advice is that it is a massive advance, because it reduces the severity of COVID-19 and decreases the risk of patients passing the virus on to other people.

“That’s hugely important, not only because of the lives it could save directly, but also because it will take pressure off our hospitals, which means they can get on with treating people with other conditions.

“Pharmac, the national drug-buying agency, has secured access to enough doses of Ronapreve to be able to treat 5300 people and expects to be able to buy more next year.

“When we created the special COVID-19 budget, we expected Pharmac to act quickly and secure treatments for New Zealand, and that’s what it’s doing.

“Ronapreve, along with molnupiravir and other drugs, form part of our armoury against the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting people and hospital services against its worst impacts.

“However, other actions are still just as important as they have ever been. Getting at least 90 per cent of people who can be vaccinated, and practical measures like wearing facemasks and social distancing are all part of the deal.

“New Zealand has done exceptionally well at dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Our infection and death rate is just a fraction of that in other countries because we’ve done what needed to be done, but we need to keep going.”
