NW on moorehouse around 11.45am this morning, Walked straight in a few people in there but not to bad and everybody trying to keep their distance as much as you could. I really like NW's presentation and variety of fresh fruit and vegs it always appears so much better than anywhere else.

Was not out of anything I needed and shelves were stocked really well.

Next week we are doing the click and collect from moorehouse countdown now its just a hub for that and deliveries.

Recently completed an online shop from Countdown. Filled up the basket and seeing the delivery cost tried to find a local place to pickup. Tried the two in Johnsonville, Petone, Crofton Downs and all had some of the items out of stock. So reverted to delivery and paid the $15 for a $99 basket.

A few days later the items arrived and two items totalling $55 were out of stock. So I ended up paying $15 delivery for a $44 basket. I complained to CD saying their online shopping won't allow a shop < $15 and yet they still fulfilled the order and secondly my card was still charged $99 even though the receipt that came with the order said $44.

A few days later I received a reply saying they would refund me the $15 delivery charge and the supermarket would correct the invoice amount on my card.

That's good service but it does point out a major failing of their delivery services. Since delivery is fulfilled from supermarket (not a DC) then inventory levels are never going to be accurate. At the time of my order perhaps the items I wanted were in stock at the supermarket that was going to do the order, but three days later when the order was packed, the items were out of stock. Probably CD never thought they would have the kinds of volumes they have now being a brick and mortar establishment trying to overlay an online service.

martyyn: My son has been going to the local park (3.4kms away according to GMaps) daily to keep up his football training and kick a ball around.

The park is huge, two full size football pitches with half a dozen 1/2 size pitches around them. There are a couple of tennis courts, an outdoor gym area plus a forest walk. Trust me it's big.

Dozens of people are walking and running around it, all keeping their distance and police are there regularly.

But today he was told to go home. We live too far away from the park to be able to use it according to the officer who turned up today. Apaprantly, new and stricter rules have come into place in the last couple of days.

Meanwhile a fair number of the bach's around us have people in them this weekend and a Lambo drove past this afternoon. A Lamborghini, in Otaki Beach, and there are as many MAMIL's cycling around today as there are in the height of summer.

Wasn't the rule 5km max from your house? If you can't get there on foot or by bike, don't go....

If that's the case, it appears your son was doing the right thing. If he was practicing safe distancing and not using the exercise equipment etc, I just don't see the problem.

As you say...plenty of Mamils doing very high KM's on their Italian steeds...

I had a similar experience but cut them some slack because it wasn't too bad and I was just so grateful to be able to get my order delivered.

I don't know about a maximum distance from your house but you can potentially walk/cycle any distance right ?

I was strongly against him going anywhere to start with and I refused to let him out. I was not a popular husband or father I can tell you !

After a week my wife called the head of the local police (she knows them all due to her line of work) and he said it was fine as long as he used his common sense at the park, kept his distance and didn't touch anything. So we let him go.

Where we live, you can spot a "weekender" a mile off and we lost count of them over the Easter weekend. Bach's which have been empty since Christmas were suddenly occupied and we saw multiple camper vans driving down to the beach.

I know it's all a bit "whataboutery" but it's frustrating to live somewhere small and be called out for staying local yet it's easy to see people travelling unreasonable distances to take advantage of our isolation.

i have a $200 order in at countdown for delivery this Friday, i dont like substitutions so will be interesting to seewhat i get , they said they had flour , i dont expect that to come, but my last delivery was ok and i got everything except cat food sachets.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Went to New World on Tuesday, seems they've taken the foot off the gas a bit. Not sure if it's complacency or different teams working, or what. A lot less cleaning going on (none in fact), no longer controlling numbers of people in or out, very little social distancing inside. Lots of stuff out of stock too (could be forgiven for the day after Easter weekend though).

Went to Countdown afterwards to get the things NW missed. Night and day difference - teams cleaning the aisles, checkouts and trollies; good entry/exit protocol, sanitiser stations regularly throughout the store, and even better every product I wanted in stock. Took the opportunity to do a bit of price comparison too and the shop would have cost me about 10% less at Countdown I think.

Long story short, bye bye New World.

Unfortunately for me I'm going to have to switch to ordering online atleast for the short term....

I've been avoiding it as being fit and young, I'm in a better state to visit the local store rather than put extra load on the service for those that can't.

We've had 2 orders from Bidfoodhome and have had a positive experience both time, the last order was 100% fulfilled which included milk, fresh fruit & vegies and flour (my wife does a lot of baking). The only downside is we couldn't get stuff like catfood or nappies but we've ordered from the Warehouse for that type of stuff. The first order they were still sorting out their supply chain for smaller orders apparently (I know a few people who work there) and we didn't get the 420g cans of tomatoes and one other minor thing I can't remember. The only downside is you have to order large quantities for some stuff, but we're just splitting it up and freezing it when we need to.

Online is too unreliable at the moment, much easier going instore. My local New World was quiet at 8am today, no queue, by time I came out an hour later maybe 10 people lined up, but moving quickly. Everything seems the same as last week.

Managed to get everything on the list except spring onions.

Beer was looking low so I cleared some more shelf space for them to make way for the next delivery :)

Quite surprised in the difference between PaknSave and Countdown sanitation/checkouts here in the Hamilton CBD. Usually go to Countdown because it'll be quieter.

Countdown - 1 panel in front of checkout operators, you put your own food in trolley (so you end up right next to the operator anyway), & a spray bottle and paper towel at the door. Quite a few people organizing customers as to where to go at the checkouts.

PaknSave - full on trolley sanitation crew. Wash bays on entry and exit. Quite a few panels in front of checkout operators & they put your food in the trolley. Closest you get is with the eftpos machine and taking your trolley away. Unsure whether they have traffic controllers..

First time going to Paknsave since Level 3. Always long queues but beat the rush this morning and walked straight in. Good meat prices too.

Just a general comparison.

This morning our local NW said things have been quiet since early afternoon yesterday - since the announcement about level 3. They said there seems to be a lot less of a panic vibe. Goodness knows why.

Got my online delivery today, and more than half the items weren't delivered due to no stock. Also one thing they said they provided wasn't in the box, which has been quite common, so have to contact them for a refund. I have found online shopping to not be all that great from my experience, and you also end up getting fruit and veges that maybe past it, because you don't get to pick them out yourself. Wouldn't want to risk ordering avocados online as bananas have been a bit of a failure. Would make banana cake from them, but no flour. Mine is quite a small P.E. supermarket, which maybe a factor, but in normal times their stock levels are very good. Although I do understand the staff are trying their best in difficult situations.
