neb: It's a pity we're likely to go with e-vaccination-passports because I'd love to get one of these as a vaccine card holder. Very cute.

should still work, tho you might need to resize the QR code a little to fit in

it’s literally just a QR code again :)

It is over 7 months since my second vaccination. I read today that the decision about booster shots is still months away. Great! Just as the effectiveness wanes the country is going to open up. 4 months of wasted protection with no Covid in the country. Meanwhile unused doses sit expiring waiting for the FIBI to trot along and get their first.

More non performance from the ‘officials’. No wonder everyone I talk to is becoming more disillusioned and angry (workmates are all in a similar boat having been vaccinated in March/April).

On a more positive note, the company I work for gives all staff an extra day of leave when we show them our double vaccination card, so I have Monday off.

Pfizer doesn’t have FDA approval for boosters for the general population. Do you expect politicians to ignore the regulators?

And yet there is a medical professional in todays herald that was vaccinated at a similar time to me calling for just such a thing. (Cited Israeli experience). Like most things in this response there has been a ‘we’ll get round to it” attitude. However, I expect there will be an announcement of an announcement at some stage……

Israel is a weird case. Got done ages ago, but only to about 60%, so no surprise that they need boosters and have a lot of break thru cases, when 45% of the population (not sure if thats total or elegable) isn't protected at all. Should be different here once we get to 90% or more, at least somewhat.

Last I read on "Just as the effectiveness wanes the country is going to open up", it's less, sure, but only for contracting it. The protection for getting really sick is still crazy high and unchanged.

Still dont want to get it tho!

For anyone wanting the detailed technical discussion of what's happening in Israel, it's here.

Unfortunately, in the case of refuting antivaxxers, it's difficult to get all of that easily into a sound bite.

There are individuals calling for all sorts of nonsense.

Regulators have to work with evidence not some random reckons.

Sorry, I thought this was the Covid as it affects GZers thread. Articles like this affect me. If not medically, then psychologically.

Yep, a very good read. It explains what is going on in easy to understand terms and really puts the data into perspective. I posted a link to that article some time back on the main Covid thread.

Trouble is the anti vaxxers jumped on the raw data from Israel and started using it as a case study to prove vaccination doesn't work. Sadly most of them can't or won't understand what the numbers really show.

Fairly expensive way as there are about 260 staff nationwide.

Can't see why they can't ask. If you have a problem, don't answer.

Unless there is a bump in law, employers are in a tight spot with the Employment law, privacy law, and health And safety at work act. All possibly holding back for that 1 case to be challenged to see where they stand.

Heard from a few places that have had surveys going out testing those waters. Willing to disclose, how you feel about others being in the workplace who are/are not. Presumably part of that they can more or less tactfully say if you don't disclose. You may be considered as un-jabbed. Which with the up-coming changes to some fields, may also effect things.

Rather awkward really.

1 says you can't ask

1 says you don't need to advise

1 says you they can't disclose to other parties without consent (although it may stop some aspects of a role if you are working with frontline agencies)

1 says in certain instances they need to ensure your safety, which may include immunization?

We sometimes have to work in places where Covid vaccination has been made mandatory. No use sending someone to do a job that will get refused entry.

There are also some customers making noises about only wanting fully vaccinated contractors on site.

Yeah it was the high-risk frontline locations and all associated contractors early mandate that lead to a few of us being bumped. But now you have the whole... They can't actually ask (but can deny) specific vs unspecific cases.

A person’s vaccination status is personal information and so falls under the protections laid out in the Privacy Act 2020. However, as we have outlined previously, there are limited situations where an employer can ask for the vaccination status of an employee where they have a legitimate need to know. Justifiable reasons to ask for this can include a legitimate health and safety concern, or where certain roles must be performed by a vaccinated worker, such as staff at an MIQ facility.

https://www.privacy.org.nz/blog/the-covid-19-vaccination-and-privacy-rights/ for those that want a read.

It also links to MBIE/Working guides where I mention earlier about non disclosure is allowed to be flagged as not.

If the worker does not disclose (or provide evidence about) their vaccination status, the business may assume the worker has not been vaccinated for the purposes of managing health and safety risks. However, businesses should first inform workers of this assumption, and what will happen if the worker is not vaccinated or does not disclose their vaccination status.
