Novavax application to Medsafe filed:

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/126884622/covid19-novavax-applies-to-medsafe-for-vaccine-use-in-new-zealand

If approved those idiots that claim to be waiting for this will just find another lame excuse.

I know a bunch of people here and in OZ who are waiting for Novavax as they believe it has zero side effects. I don't expect to see any roll out here until we've seen 6+ months out in the wild and understand the potential risks.

I understand that Novovax could be a better fit for people who've been advised to avoid Pfizer due to their risk profile.

I'd expect to see the first round of boosters to be to be Pfizer, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Novavax in 12+ months time.

[believe because none have been reported - they miss the point that this hasn't been approved anywhere yet]

Glad they clarified the positive death was unrelated.

Sad they ran with it in the first place. The first thing people would do would jump to the side of inconceivable to use it against the authorities.

I had flashbacks of how they latched onto the misreporting conspiracies in the US by reporting it, just due the person being an isolation positive case. People have unexplained deaths daily unfortunately. But you don't hear about them. Natural or un-natural. So the fact this person was at home in isolation, probably should have been only reported and clarified after the investigation to lay it to rest then and there.

Auckland has been locked down and locked in for 2 and a half months.

That is more than enough time for the rest of NZ to have gotten their 2 jabs....and Auckland too for that matter.

But it hasn't happened. And doesn't even look close to happening.

What is wrong with this country?!

We're doing well comparitively and are quite highly vaccinated already. I read today that Germany is only 66% double jabbed and vaccine rates have dropped off massively.

Yes, but if it wasn't disclosed and later turned out to be Covid, people would ask what else are they hiding. If you are honest you can't go far wrong. They said the person passed away, had Covid, but unsure if related

I suspect Hipkins sticking his foot in it may mean that the government has to lay out what options are actually on the table before they actually make their decision.

If everyone had been locked down under the same conditions Auckland was in, with the same conditions on unlocking, vaccination rates would be far far better outside of Auckland :)

Didn't they just say it was unrelated to the vaccine? It's still not clear if the person died OF Covid or WITH Covid, ie heart attack or stroke.

They need to clarify that ASAP, because people aren't going to be as keen to isolate at home if they are worried they could easily die etc.

I think he is doing pretty well in this position, especially compared to the last guy. Wouldn't be easy. Maybe he should have said that they were still assessing options but public do want answers now. The last thing NZ wants is 'Covid for Christmas'.

The thing is that the person had Covid, so it couldn't be related to getting the vaccine, so not sure why it would even be mentioned by the media. Covid is the illness that has a relatively high risk of killing people, especially if people are older or have a pre existing condition. Not sure why the media is giving so much coverage to antivax stuff

I started keeping track (from Oct 25) of the daily vaccination data on the MoH website, just for the 3 Auckland DHBs.

All the lines going in the wrong direction.

The Vaxathon only picked up about 40,000 first dosers nationwide so I'm not really expecting to see a spike.

How can you say that unless you definitely know he was not vaccinated? He could have been vaccinated and still die from Covid or complications you know..

I'd be surprised if it didn't kick up at least a bit.

Yes, whether they were vaccinated or not, people can still get covid and die from it. The odds are just reduced a lot. Or did they get covid and then get a vaccination?  I don't know if they have even said they have been vaccinated or not, or if so when.  That is why I don't understand why it is even being discussed as a possibility, when they actually had covid. Is every person that dies with covid, and dies from it, now going to be checked to see it it was vaccine related, because surely a vaccine related problem would occur within a time period of the vaccination being given. Not after someone then catches covid, unless they got the vaccination shortly before developing it, and if that was the case, the vaccine wouldn't have likely had time to work anyway.

Ditto, Auckland's vax rates are shrinking faster than they are closing the gap,

Have a look at the the numbers on 2nd doses needed to get to 90% ... 2 weeks ago it was 235K and the 7 days average of 2nd doses was 16K..

looking at that you would say great 235K doses 16K a day= 15 days.... WRONG... 14 days later we still have a gap of 117K doses and the average vax rat is now 7K per day... 17 days to go....

If they don't really start to pound on doors to get more people 1st dosed. the 2nd doses are going to keep declining

All the media "days to 90" calculations are based on  static vax  rates ( or you can tweak them down 20%)- but Auckland 2nd dose rates  have declined 50% in the last 2 weeks and and now under 6K a day....
