The compressing of flights the other day means this is probbaly imports from what would have been a regaulr stream over the next 2 weeks, they just came home as one compressed group

Surely this means so many potentially active cases in proximity to one another dramatically increases the chance of spread. If you go from having one person coming through the airport every six hours with it to one every two hours, that must increase the chances of transmission on the ground.

Did I hear correctly? Bloomfield said the kid in Otago had 150 close contacts? They intend to test them all over the next 24 hours.

1 school day, 5 classes ,30 kids in each class, 150 close contacts.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Other kids, teachers, plus siblings and parents would soon add up.

I'd be very surprised if we don't detect CT with the new rates of testing now.

Id say so. The opposite applies now as the airport has very low international arrivals now. Maybe soon, days, week or so, it may be nil.

Testing them seems like a waste of resources.. Does a person return a positive 1-2 days after exposure? The majority probably don't. That being said all 150 are required to self-isolate 14 days no matter the result and report any symptoms etc.

That wouldn't surprise me,

Its a high school, so it will be all the kids in their home room, + every kid in any specific subjects,  + teams they practiced with etc, + staff

150 is a very easy number to get to in a school of 600+ kids

I dont think that would be classed as CT as its known transmission from a known source. We alreday have those now. 3 or 4 I think If we get a case In Tekapo and Taihape that we cant find any means they got it, thats CT I think. Community Transmission, in the wild so to speak.

Batman:

i can guarantee every flight from monday would have at least 1 infected

Prove that guarantee. Can't?. Don't need those sorts of claims with GZs search rank and media looking for stories from internet comments

Having seen the most recent photos of Jacinda Ardern and Dr Bloomfield the strain of this is starting to show on their faces. I shudder to think of the stress levels these folk and others working very hard for Kiwis are under. It is sometimes easy to forget that.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I think they only test symptoms. They self isolate the potential infections, that keeps them away from the public, if they show symptoms they test. The key thing is self isolation. If they subsequently test positive, its done no harm to the public
