Batman: I guess they will all fly jetstar https://i.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/126926545/covid19-air-nz-to-make-full-vaccination-or-negative-test-compulsory-for-domestic-travel

Jetstar will follow.. If negative test results are required to leave Auckland over Xmas there is going to be huge pressure on testing facilities up there, especially with the number of kids who fly.

Looks like my relative I referred to a few pages back will need to revisit what she does when travelling now.

Guessing there is almost zero chance currently, because cases are still relatively low and there is social distancing and mass wearing. Plus many people with covid are either in MIQ or being forced to isloate while they are sick, but will that continue to occur? But what about in the future when covid is endemic and there won't be the same restrictions in place in supermarkets. Will people always need to wear masks in supermarkets and be social distanced when in supermarkets under the traffic light system?. I know someone in the US who caught it when they went shopping, despite wearing a cloth mask and washing hands etc and they had a pretty bad case of it. .

There's a reason medical staff wear both mask and eyewear. Eyeballs are also a direct link inbound. Someone else likely wasn't as covered up.

Red and orange we still have them. Green it is recommended.

And it's also worth mentioning cloth masks aren't really that effective at all. It's really going to depend on the type of cloth mask you you're looking at somewhere between 5-30% effectiveness at protecting you.

So when they say that people can travel is that within an outer border to the Auckland region or wherever they like in NZ?

From the Stuff article "Those not fully vaccinated would be able to provide evidence of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours before departure – from either free community testing or their GP"

I thought previous pre-depature testing was quoted as being around $250?

For planned travel requiting a certified result vs safety of the nation, it is/was. Presumably as this is domestic and to help keep spread down. They're including in the normal testing reigeme

I really can't see how this is going to work practically. A friend was trying to escape Auckland a couple of weeks ago - she required two tests in the end, as it took over 72 hours for her first result to come back. The demand isn't going to drop...

Given it's the middle of a working day. And most of us are likely in our office/home office.

I wonder how many are actually effected. Or just being on the bandwagon as they can...

This is highly irresponsible.
Encouraging people to crowd, especially given there are supposed to be limits on numbers.
Something like a sales promotion for customers over the week would be more reasonable.

It is understood they are there specifically for the opening of a new store, JD Sports Sylvia Park, which is advertising that the first 150 customers through its doors will get a gift pack worth $150.

Absolutely, @ezbee. It is very irresponsible.

However, the Auckland lockdown stopped being a medical-health based lockdown a long time ago. Politics and economics factors are taking centre stage now.

Not really any words I can use on the forums to describe the protesters today without triggering the filters.

From the Stuff Liveblog: A Stuff photographer was grabbed and pushed by protestors who yelled anti-media abuse at him.

It says thousands are marching in article. Also bus’s are not stopping at some stops for saftely. Also with statements like this “we the people' to take matters into our hands as we undertake THE GREAT GRIDLOCK across many parts of this nation, unlike anything ever seen before," the group said.”

I hope the police don’t stand by and watch. If they carry out their threat and police are unable to deal with it then call in the Army. Only question is where do you lock them up? Don’t have an empty remote island somewhere.
