This is a confronting piece - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-glen-eden-father-of-seven-dies-at-home-daughter-says-he-tried-to-get-help/BEKTBLTD3QY4FJEWHKCEJTPORQ/

The whole premise of phone assessments only is a massive clinical risk.  Putting the onus on a family who is calling with concern to make medical decisions with no clinical assessment capabilities is madness.  They seem to be taking a symptom only response.  What about heart rates, what about blood pressures, what are the inflammatory markers indicating?  More people will die at home if they are not going to be clinically assessed.

I find this disgraceful telling someone that is spitting blood and obviously very ill to suck lozenges, take a pill and that’s it’s a normal path of the disease.

The Government had near two years of experiences from other countries of what support is required in this pandemic and this is the best idea they could come up with to let people die at home with little support. We have had 3 such deaths. Andrew Little apologising and admitting failure to NZ is not enough. The family that lost their father will find small comfort in an apology and public condolences .

I think New Zealand wants to know pretty fast what changes are to be made to avoid such deaths and a plan forward not apologies after the fact.

As someone who lives alone I thought I would be in a good position to self-isolate if I ever needed to, but now I find the idea quite frightening.

If I get really sick then I can't ask friends to come and help me for fear of infecting them, and I don't have confidence in the public health system to respond.

Hopefully being vaccinated and physically fit will limit the risk.

I am trying to get in more walking on weekends and up my physical activity for this reason.

At the moment I'm quite unfit. Covid is a good kick up the bum in that regard.

Already eating much better, which will probably help.

MileHighKiwi, RUKI

In New Zealand vaccination at school was common too. Probably UK, Aussie as well.
Back when one could see the odd child with a metal brace on their leg
as last remaining cases of Polio.
No one made an issue of it at my High School.
Nothing to do with political ideology , just necessity.

Very true, I can just remember getting the German Measles one and another one (either Polio or TB) when I was at primary school.

Yup. I have massively increased my exercise in the last few weeks, now that lockdown has eased and we can see the tide coming. Getting fitter is a good thing to do anyway, but huffing up hills can only help in case the jab doesn't work 100%.

I never even thought about this until now, but I am elderly, alone on a rural farm, a half-hour by ambulance from the hospital, friends in town but not near me, and if told to self-isolate I think I would now demand a bottle of oxygen at home in case I needed it and if that was refused I would force an MIQ place by announcing my intention to visit every public location I could find, starting with the police station.

if the Govt wants to get vaccine numbers up in areas where they are low just leak that there is a possible covid case in the area and watch the numbers skyrocket.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Albeit they are now dying in dozens of thousands daily in that unfortunate part of the world from Covid, they still maintain their never-dying sense of humor... So, Interpreted from foreign language:
"In the small village of Fokeno, Ivan convinced female population that vaccine is ST and managed to "vaccinate" them all. Some even got "second doze"...

I don’t agree with misinformation even if for a good cause. If it gets  found out false, what else can’t they be trusted with.

If they made it clearer what is going to happen with Auckland, I.e will they be travelling the entire country coming to Christmas, that might up the urgency to get vaccinated with some people.

I know they have strongly indicated that is what is going to happen, but need to be more direct about it.

Double-tonne, Taupo wasterwater positive (presumably taken earlier this week), no L3 for Taranaki at this point.

That's not government mandated though is it?

Does it matter? There isn't rioting in the street because some places won't let you expose your kids to insane risk of catching infectious diseases.

The point is we accept it as being not an outrageous assault on our kid's human rights.

Similar to how some countries require you to have immunisation certificates before you can enter.

This isn't a new thing, people crapping their pants because they're being asked to conform with something that isn't a new idea at all are totally beyond my comprehension.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Austria thing is perfectly OK. Just that it's an indicator of the strange times we live in.

I remember when the traffic light system was first announced we all recognised very early that there was no incentive for the unvaccinated to get vaccinated as they would be giving up freedoms that they enjoy today. Well it seems the government have now finally cottoned on to that fact and are considering moving everyone in to the traffic light system with Auckland.

Mandate to get Covid-19 vaccination not a breach of Bill of Rights, High Court judge rules | Stuff.co.nz

A small group of doctors and teachers have lost an attempt to stop the mandate that requires them to be vaccinated by next Monday.

The groups – which originally included midwives – took their case, claiming the mandate was a breach of the Bill of Rights, to the High Court on Monday.

They said the mandate – which stipulates they must have had their first Covid-19 vaccination by November 15 – was inconsistent with their right to refuse medical treatments. They said the Covid-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Act 2021 did not explicitly authorise the placing of a limit on their right to refuse to undergo any medical treatment.

However, Justice Matthew Palmer disagreed.

I thought everyone was moving to the traffic light system anyway when the government thought vaccination rates were good enough. Just that the border would remain inplace. Just because the traffic light system exists doesn't mean that all areas will be green. Auckland will likely be red to begin with (maybe for some time according to one expert I heard)

I think it is crazy that unvaccinated people can still cross the Auckland border now, but won't be able to when, and it appears at least some of te leaks across the border are from unvaccinated people. I can't understand why the media aren't pressing this, rather than asking if Father Christmas has an MIQ booking. Then someone in the media said father Christmas doesn't exist, I mean WTH.

It was only Auckland moving to the traffic lights when they got to 90%. The rest of the country would follow when all the other DHB's got to 90%. But now it looks like we will all go at the same time.
